The New York Times has published a piece by its former Jerusalem bureau chief, Steve Erlanger, detailing the incitement against the Jews routinely promoted by Hamas. Most disgusting — and most ominous — is the way in which Palestinian children are taught from the cradle to hate and to murder Jews:
Another children’s program, ‘Tomorrow’s Pioneers,’ has become infamous for its puppet characters — a kind of Mickey Mouse, a bee and a rabbit — who speak, like Assud the rabbit, of conquering the Jews to the young hostess, Saraa Barhoum, 11. ‘We will liberate Al Aksa mosque from the Zionists’ filth,’ Assud said recently. ‘We will liberate Jaffa and Acre,’ cities now in Israel proper. ‘We will liberate the whole homeland.’
The mouse, Farfour, was murdered by an Israeli interrogator and replaced by Nahoul, the bee, who died ‘a martyr’s death’ from lack of health care because of Gaza’s closed borders. He has been supplanted by Assud, the rabbit, who vows ‘to get rid of the Jews, God willing, and I will eat them up, God willing.’When Assud first made his appearance, he said to Saraa: ‘We are all martyrdom-seekers, are we not, Saraa?’ She responded: ‘Of course we are. We are all ready to sacrifice ourselves for the sake of our homeland. We will sacrifice our souls and everything we own for the homeland.'
This Nazi-style indoctrination in hatred of the Jews and incitement to murder, fired by the rocket fuel of purportedly divine authority to produce mass genocidal hysteria, is the real cause of the Middle East impasse. And before anyone leaps up to say that the west still (just about, but don’t count on it) regards Hamas as beyond the pale, the so-called ‘moderates’ of Fatah and the Palestinian Authority— even though they are now generally more careful not to use such openly anti-Jewish language —also continue to promote and support violence, terror and the destruction of Israel through their media. As the US Middle East reporting monitor CAMERA reports:
On March 14, 2008, the Palestinian Authority controlled newspaper, Al Hayat-Al Jadida, described the terrorist who massacred eight yeshiva students in Jerusalem on March as a ‘groom,’ and called his burial a ‘wedding celebration.’ PMW [Palestinian Media Watch] reported: ‘The story in Mahmoud Abbas’ Al Hayat-Al Jadida goes on to evoke the neighborhood Jabal Mukbar's “week of anticipation . . . preparing themselves for the wedding procession.” The term ‘wedding’ is the expression commonly used in PA society, and in schoolbooks as well, to describe the death of Shahids – Martyrs for Allah…
A new music video began to appear on PA-controlled television in October 2007 promising the ‘liberation’ of cities within Israel – in other words, the destruction of Israel. The lyrics include:From Jerusalem and Acre and from Haifa and Jericho and Gaza and Ramallah
From Bethlehem and Jaffa and Be'er Sheva and Ramle
And from Nablus to the Galilee, and from Tiberias to HebronThe message of this PA music video is identical to that of Hamas’ Assud the rabbit, mentioned above.
While Roz Rothstein, international director of StandWithUs, reveals these images of war on display in the PA-controlled West Bank town of Dheisheh.
In Gaza, Hamas’s Insults to Jews Complicate Peace. And the refusal of the western media to report them complicate it even further.

April 2nd, 2008 11:22am'insults to the Jews'. That's a good one. Rocket attacks. suicide bombers, massacres, vile hateful propaganda, brainwashing children to hate Jews, genocidal threats. Insults? Who is Erlanger kidding? This playing down of the horror is just further betrayal of the Jewish people.

April 2nd, 2008 11:26amI read on the BBC news website all about Hamas TV & their aping of Disney, so I'm not sure why you are complaining that the issue has not been exposed.
If you are expecting all media to follow what CAMERA say, then of course you will be disappointed, CAMERA are extremely biased. If you want biased 'news' then by all means read CAMERA output, or Melanie Phillips!

April 2nd, 2008 12:12pmJohn: But why don't we see Hamas TV's disgusting cartoons mentioned on BBC TV? Surely you can see that if the Israalis broadcast equivalent poison about arabs, it would be very widely reported?

April 2nd, 2008 12:17pmJohn,
We all await your own translation with bated breath. Or perhaps you could ask one of your friends, if their knowledge of Arabic stretches beyond reciting doggerel by rote.

April 2nd, 2008 12:48pmHere is this week's Hamas children's tv cartoon of the week - not quite like Postman Pat!!
If you feed the child a poor fatty diet he will grow up fat -and poor mind food will react no differently. This means we have a generation of Arab children and to children within the UK muslim community, who are being fed a diet of anti-Semetic hate.

April 2nd, 2008 1:00pmTalking of biased 'news', the paper of Walter Durante is just the thing. NY Times didn't have much time for the Jews at the time of the Holocaust; why should its writers and editors worry about terrorism in Israel today?

April 2nd, 2008 2:29pmYou have to give the Palestinians credit, of a sort. When they aren't speaking soft words to western diplomats or media, they are quite honest: the enemy to be destroyed is "Jews." They don't pretend to make that distinction between Jews (good, as long as they know their place) and Zionists (bad).
And you're absolutely right, Alistair. If Israeli tv had anything remotely like this the outcry on the western media would be deafening.
I like Melanie's stuff, John, but in terms of what the Arabs actually say to each other, you don't have to rely on her or CAMERA. Check www.memri.org. Obviously they're selective, but I don't think anyone has seriously questioned their translations or suggested that they are making anything up.

April 2nd, 2008 2:49pmThe stories and clips of what is shown on both Hamas and Fatah TV are regularly reported to the world by Palestinian Media Watch (pmw.org.il) and Memri. In the US Fox often picks these reports up (currently they're noticing the Hamas program showing a child killing President Bush and turning the White House into a Mosque.)
Unfortunately the rest of the world's media is almost completely blind to this. The Mickey mouse rip off was grudgingly picked up after PMW worked with Hillary Clinton to raise the profile of that. Hillary Clinton came right out and condemned it at a press conference with the head of PMW. PMW and Memri are purely translating and transcribing the material but people like Ken Livingstone are able to use typical left tricks to discredit them and ignore what they're telling us.
PMW is actually focusing more on Fatah TV these days because Fatah are the "good" terrorists we must speak to. It turns out, however, that their TV is just as extreme as anything Hamas dreams up.

If you want biased 'news' then by all means read CAMERA output, or Melanie Phillips So, The BBC ALSO reported what CAMERA reported. The Daily Telegraph ALSO reported on the "Murder Bush Video" with a page link to their article about the Disney-like characters used by Hamas. This absolutely stupidity citing that CAMERA is biased is one of the dumbest comment templates ever made. So I will repeat my response. Toys R Us don't sell Cod, Chips and Mushy pease. dooes that mean they are biased towards toys or against Cod & Chips? Geddit?

April 2nd, 2008 11:59pmBut this sort of racist, genocidal incitement isn't new. It predates Israel itself. And the blind eye turned towards it by the west is now institutional. Exactly what happened in 1930s Europe. 'Never again' is now 'Again and Again'.

April 3rd, 2008 2:08amI think Paxo has been reading this blog. Tonight on Newsnight he chaired a discussion between three (alleged) comedians on why it is that comedy lampooning or criticising Christianity is permitted on BBC, but comedy lampooning or criticising Islam is not. I think it was an attempt to show that the BBC is indeed prepared to discuss these things and is even handed. In fact it inadvertantly proved that it isn't: the waffle from the (alleged) comedians and the tepid interjections from the lagubrious lounge suit were all designed to subliminally justify the BBC's bias and censure. Good try Jeremy, but no banana, I'm afraid.

April 3rd, 2008 12:27pmWould the Jewish broacasting companies commision a kids show with little Jewish bairns and a large Jewish cat or dog telling the young audience the benefits of bombing through terrorism the muslims of Gaza?
Just extend your imagination into the realms of 'not on your nelly' and pretend a show such as this was made and shown to Jewish children, are some people saying that the BBC would not have this news story as its main news bulliten all day long for a couple a days making sure that those pesky folks that live in the 'rogue' state were made aware that the hate reached a global audience?
The BBC dont report the Nazi style hate fest of the Muslims in Gaza because quite simply its not convenient.

April 3rd, 2008 1:40pmI read your excellent article, "Why is the UK appeasing Iran?" and was proud to see there are still journalists who stand up for justice. The Iranian government is the biggest enemy of peace and tranquility in the region and the entire world, not because they are developing a nuclear weapon they would no doubt use, but more dangerous than that is the religious fanaticism that they are the heartland for it and you have correctly remarked that one can find their finger prints on every terrorist activity. The solution to this problem is in the hands of the Iranian resistance. The appeasement of the Mullahs has done a lot of damage to their endeavors to restore freedom and democracy in Iran. Yesterday I heard that in just one year more than 10000 articles have been published and distributed as part of the campaign led by the Iranian ministry of information and their allies in west (the appeasers) to disinform the public about PMOI. Your article and the noble article from Mr. Rosenberg which I was privileged to know about it through your blog are very heart worming indeed. More power to your elbow!

April 3rd, 2008 3:09pmNovin Omid - good luck to you and your cause. I am not sure what a "heart worm" is, but it sounds beneficial, has wormed its way into my affections and it warms the cockles of my heart to hear about it from you.

April 4th, 2008 2:45pmI had no reaosn to doubt your intelligence, John, until your response indicated you may not read very well. I specifically said that MEMRI was selective. But I also said that no one had seriously questioned their translations and, for that matter, I don't thinkt he authenticity of what they cite has been doubted.
OK, they're selective. Where are the children's tv shows that promote brotherhood, acceptance of differences, and peaceableness?
I've heard that a lot, that MEMRI is biased. But those people who say that don't seem to be able to come up with examples showing other than what MEMRI offers as the main thrust of Arab thinking and rhetoric. If you know of sources that can do that, I'm sure we'd all love to see them.

April 4th, 2008 6:44pmHow interesting that the Arabs call for liberating Jaffa and Acre.
Actually the Arabs are 100% correct for both these towns were assigned to the new Arab state under the 1947 UN Partition Plan.
Israel illegally holds these towns, together with Jerusalem which was not assigned to Israel either.
I don't like the Arabs educating their children to hate, however their history books are spot on.

April 5th, 2008 11:59am"Actually the Arabs are 100% correct for both these towns were assigned to the new Arab state under the 1947 UN Partition Plan.
Israel illegally holds these towns, together with Jerusalem which was not assigned to Israel either" -- unmitigated nonsense. The partition plan was REJECTED by the Arabs (feel free to look up the words in uppercase), when they launched a WAR against Israel. Therefore, the partition plan became NULL and VOID on that day.
Ben-Tsiyon
April 5th, 2008 12:11pmSoreofhing: your Arab friends REJECTED the 1947 UN Partition Plan, whereas my people, although disappointed by it, accepted it ! In 1948, following the end of the British occupation and declaration of the REBIRTH of Israel in the land of our forefathers, your friends launched a war of intended ethnic cleansing (they had already carried out some EC during the British occupation e.g. in 1929, against the most ancient Jewish community of Hebron, while the British stood by), which they lost. Ever since, and despite their defeat, they have continued to reject "their" offered piece of the cake and to demand the whole cake. Hard cheese!

April 5th, 2008 12:37pmsoreofthing-The United Nations Special Commission on Palestine (UNSCOP) recommended that Palestine be divided into an Arab state and a Jewish state. The commission called for Jerusalem to be put under international administration and seperated from the two states The UN General Assembly adopted this plan on Nov. 29, 1947 as UN Resolution (GA 181). The plan for "partition with economic union" divided the land into several cantons. Both the Jewish state and the Arab state had 3 cantons each that touched each other south of Nazareth and near Gaza-it was impossible to implement because of the This jigsaw puzzle would have been difficult to implement for friendly populations, and was impossible to implement given the hostility between Arabs and Jews-perhaps you will quote your references -mine are from the UN-put it in your browser under un partition plan 1947 -the map did of course change de facto by the Arabs invading and war ensuing

April 5th, 2008 8:58pmThank you Melanie Phillips for exposing the indoctrination of hate that emanates from the Arab media. Unfortunately, the Western media is too preoccupied with the antics of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton to closely examine the conscious incitement of arab youth to hate for hate's sake. It is reminiscent of Nazi Germany. Hopefully, the western democracies will wake up to what is taking place.

April 7th, 2008 4:23pmWhy oh why oh why can't the Palestinians love the Israelis???
After all, isn't it human nature to love people that steal your land, kill your children, and smash your home?!?
Ann
April 7th, 2008 6:21pmIgnorant nonsense. The Jews of Israel didn't steal any land: they bought back the land that was theirs in the first place and was stolen from them by foreigners, and then settled on by Arab invaders. And let's not start on how many Jewish children were murdered by Arabs for the past 100 years, both in terrorist murders and in wars started by the Arabs against a country trying to live in peace within its own borders.

April 8th, 2008 12:44amroger silly boy you just made a great point for the Israelis -it wasnt your intention was it ?you need to go back to your mentors who may teach you how to do your work better .it pains me to say it but in this case I agree with ann

April 8th, 2008 1:38amMelanieīs above article The War of The Jews is interesting as far as attracting other like thinkers to this blog; however we could remark that "she would say that wouldn't she" seeing that she has a clearly defined agenda to always presenting Israel in a good light, and of course, deny that the Palestinians have any reasonable cause for their anger.
When Melanie acknowledges the Israeli government's foreign policy of ethnic cleansing of the West Bank and Israelīs blatant policy of settling this area (and others such as Jerusalem)with extremist gun totin' Jews, we could start to say she is unbiased.
Until then, it's just more propaganda.
ahad ha'amoratzim
April 8th, 2008 3:20pmsoreofthing, if Israel's policy is ethnic cleansing of the West Bank, they're doing a poor job of it. Arab population of the West Bank has grown and continues to grow under Israeli administration. Israel introduced hospitals, universities, affordable (and often free) medical care and clinics, and free universal public education on the West Bank, where there had been none under Arab rule. Under Israeli rule of the West Bank, infant mortality fell and per capita income, educational levels, medical care, life expectancy and standard of living rose, and that situation remained until the Arabs launched the intifada.
Even today, more housing units are built on the West Bank for Arabs than for Jews; they just don't make the headlines. The biggest impediment to Arab prosperity in the West Bank is the same as the biggest impediment to a Palestinian state -- too many of them think that killing Jews and driving Jews out of the middle east is a more important goal.
Soreofhing
April 8th, 2008 7:06pmHowever much Israelis and their supporters would like to convince us that Israel somehow has a right to be in the West Bank, the uncomfortable reality is that it is occupied land, land conquered in war.
However, land conquered in wartime does not grant legal title. It remains occupied land and the newcomers are occupiers. They are alien. And they are not wanted.
Some argue that when the Arab countries rejected the 1947 UN Partition Plan and attacked the newly invented state of Israel, they lost all claim to the proffered areas. That is of course utter rot.
If someone decides to give away part of my garden to others and I reject the idea and fight and lose, does that mean I lose all claim to my garden? Of course not. It's mine and the newcomers should get out and stay out.
The Allies fought Germany and conquered their land. Wartime conquest. During the occupation of Germany we did not see the fullscale expulsion of German civilians and the permanent settlement by British/US/French citizens. After a time the land was returned to the rightfull owners.
Israel on the other hand is seen to be hell bent on extinguishing all Palestinian presence in the West Bank, the occupation and expansion into the best areas and the wholesale theft of sub soil water resources which are pumped off to Israel proper. The annexation of this this land is just another word for old fashioned land grabbing.
Do this to anyone and you should exect their hatred. To be aghast at their fierce resentment and murder of your settlers is plain innocence.
Ann
April 9th, 2008 7:29pmThe ignorant rot posted by this person has to be seen to be believed. The 'newly invented state of Israel', eh? Israel was there as the national state of the Jews 1500 years BEFORE the Arabs even invaded and occupied it. Do you really not know this, or are you just posting your lies on the assumption that some other ignorant soul may read them and believe you?
