I find the tone of that video, and the tone of your blog in general, quite callous. Today's headlines are full of the mass funerals of those poor Turkish civilians killed, and still others who were critically injured and currently fighting for their lives.

This video clearly makes fun of a tragic incident, and as the web address would appear to come from Israel, it seems like a very uncompassionate gesture to the wider international community.

Brilliant!! Sadly though, well founded.

Much needed laughter. And all too true! I like to think that we conservatives can at least find humor when things are grim. I sometimes think that all these other folks might be a whole lot happier if they didn't take themselves and their causes quite so seriously. Thanks, Melanie!

I am not Christian or Jewish. In my youth I was a Stalinist as I was brought up in a Clydebank home I migrated to Australia and slowly changed my mind. Their 'Scientific' analysis is always wrong, Always.
This video illustrates why I support Israel, I have never found Islam to have a sense of humour. Decapitations do not make me laugh.

According to JP today, the people who ambushed IDF on large ship, were the group of ex Turkish spec-ops, loyal to the Erdogan's Islamofascist Osman project.

These people were not only ideologically motivated, but also hoped to get promotion, and were ready to risk their heads to get it. Six of them were killed by a single IDF soldier, and three others by another soldier.

In this light, the incident with flotilla looks like not only the action of global jihad, but also a specific internal issue, reflecting strugle for power in Turkish army, and makeup and symbolism for their military elite (the banner of jihadi martyrdom etc.).

Brilliant and so true. Oh that Obama, Cameron and Hague not to mention shady Clegg would watch and open thier eyes. Thanks for this it is the TRUTH. They owe Israel and Mr Netanyahu a big apology, especially as the IHH is involved in Afghanistan, how hypocritical to have our troops risking life and limb and then to castigate Israel.

Dear Boy Named Tzu:
Today's headlines are full of the mass funerals of those poor Turkish civilians killed, and still others who were critically injured and currently fighting for their lives.

If they hadn't joined the flotilla, aligning themselves with people whose raison d'etre is genocide, wiping Israel off map, they wouldn't have been on the boat when the soldiers were attacked with iron bars and bats and knives and shot back. The ones who are fighting for their lives are being helped in their fight by the best medical care in the Middle East-Israeli medical care.

Come on! Don't be a spoilsport.

Ms. Phillips, you made my day. You may have saved me from a migraine. Thanks!!!

The whole event was a provocative set up Erdogan and the unsavoury PKK. The Turkish government is a notorious Islamist front, imposing Islamist laws, arresting opponents, murdering secularists and Kurds, censoring the media and arresting opponents. It is determined to threaten the secular base through military show trials and this little misadventure was designed to excite the ignorant peasant masses that elected it into government in the first place. It's classic displacement activity by failed Muslim states. Erdogan is the "acceptable" face of Amandinejad. If El Obamastan wasn't in power, Turkey would have been suspended from NATO by now. Certainly this tyrant-in-waiting is the best possible reason why Turkey must NEVER join the EU. EVER. For all of our sakes. It's on a course to become an unstable hell hole like Pakistan.

Trustafarians and Guardianista children - enjoy your cheap holidays there while you can.

Anybody naive enough to think the truth ever emerged from THAT (unended) conflict either?

Oh dear. This is what passes for humour nowadays?
Might I suggest that readers of this blog (esp. US ones) rouse themselves from any dogmatic slumbers and read this:

The truth was never more 'pop-tastic'! God, I love the Jews! That inimitable, profoundly humanising sense of humour maintained in the face of - or perhaps because of - the dark forces confronting them. - extraordinarily moving actually.

Lao Tzu
June 4th, 2010 1:00am Perhaps you are right ,but we have not heard of any Israeli ships entering Chinese waters to provoke ,nor any Israelis attempting to get into Burma nor Sudan ,have you heard of any arriving in Zimbabwe?-You know the cause and sadly we all saw the effect -terrorists,provocateurs and misguided people who never seek the truth. You must never believe that Jews and Israelis do not care what is happening in Gaza -we do, but we can do nothing about it -Maybe you can stop the Hamas will to destroy the Jewish people and the land of Israel and then we call sing "we are the world" together.Meanwhile tragedy will follow tragedy whilst we all write .

Augustus

June 4th, 2010 12:13pm

They've been conning the world from day one. They didn't con Hamas though, because Hamas TV, reporting on the flotilla just before it set sail, stated that some of those on board were planning violence in order to be 'martyrs for Allah.' So Latma
was right. Talented people!

Natasha

June 4th, 2010 12:36pm

Fantastic! This should go viral.

As for the "poor Turkish citizens" -- this video went right over your head, didn't it? They were terrorists intent on becoming martyrs. This was not about humanitarian aid -- it was about attacking Israelis. If you believe they were peace activists, then you've been conned -- just like what the song is saying!

If nine Jews had been killed by Muslims and Muslims had made such a video, we wouldn't be able to hear ourselves think because of the widespread and loud denunciations and accusations of antisemitism.

Callous disregard for human life is shameful, whoever the perpetrators, whoever the victims.

William Boyd

June 4th, 2010 4:13pm

Tolerably amusing suppose. I'll wait for South Park's take on it to provide the real laughs.

No idea how to take on the gap intellos (personally I don't much see the point of bothering) but I doubt this can be it. They're a pretty humourless lot in my estimation.

Re: Anti-ranter
June 4th, 2010 3:27pm

From those of you who supported the "humanitarians" I see no similar concern for the two Israeli soldiers who were whacked into critical condition because they were given paintball guns. Frankly, folks, if people decide to make a point in blood, it is better their blood than mine.

Adam B.

June 4th, 2010 7:23pm

No Lao Tzu, what is callous is the explosion of antisemitic flith in the name of "humanitarianism" which much of the media is engaged in - the delegitimization of the Jewish people in order to pave the way for this people's destruction. The Turkish "civilians" were members of IHH - racist jihadis, filmed chanting antisemitic garbage before the ships embarked, who were engaged in beating Israeli soldiers to death if they had more time. Sorry we didn't have more Jewish blood to please you.

It is alla con, and you're a sucker.

Pnolan

June 4th, 2010 8:26pm

Extremely poor taste! Let's just laugh at 'arab' accents and so what if we are placing an entire civilian population under a vindictive siege! Yes, you can just imagine the chuckles in Tel Aviv if we all dressed up as orthodox Jews and poked fun the next time a rocket lands in southern Israel! All part of dehumanizing the enemy I guess.

Derek BLADES

June 4th, 2010 9:20pm

Something calling itself Adam B. describes criticism of the Israeli commandoes as "delegitimization of the Jewish people in order to pave the way for this people's destruction." The poor fellow has finally flipped.

Like other contributors to this debate I insist on the right to criticize the present government of Israel without being accused of wanting the destruction of Israel.

June 4th, 2010 8:26pm

You must speak Hebrew quite well if you can spot Arab accents. Mine is rather rusty, besides I prefer Yiddish, but I can spot an Arab speaking Hebrew a mile away.

Do you really want me to believe you don’t cheer every time YOU send rockets into Israel.

You should chill out, how about we go to the pub and talk about it?

Augustus

June 4th, 2010 9:49pm

Pnolan - You talk about 'dehumanizing'. How would you like to be a woman in an Islamic country? You have to wear a niqab in public where only your eyes can be seen. These women feel that they don't exist. Their personality has been taken from them. They aren't allowed to be seen, they are in fact invisible. These women don't really participate in public life at all, they are never spoken to. Only in their own homes can they communicate,
mostly with their husbands and close family. Now that's dehumanizing.

Adam B.

June 4th, 2010 11:22pm

Something calling itself Derek Blades says he merely has a problem with the Israeli commandos, and not Israel per se.

No problem with antisemitic chanting by the passengers of the ship? No problem with the Hamas charter calling for the extermination of the Jews (you have defended the charter in previous posts Blades), no problem with no problem with its wars of defence against a genocidal enemy?

No, just the commandos.

I sure believe you.

The hysteria about this raid is indeed part of the process of delegitimizing the Jewish state. Turkey, which has led the vitriol, (and with whom Blades has no problem) frequently bombs Kurdish villages in northern Iraq. How many civilians have been killed Blades? Who cares? No Jews to blame - so no emergency UN sessions needed.

Blades, are you really so blind to such hypocrisy?

And what exactly is your problem with the commandos - that they didn't let themselves be beaten to death (as is evident in the video) or let themselves be kidnapped (see Melanie's latest post)?

They arrived with paintball guns!

Adam B.

June 4th, 2010 11:23pm

Blades, no problem with the IHH then? tell me, is there any antisemitic Islamist group you don't like?

Miranda Rose Smith

June 6th, 2010 11:30am

Dear Anti-Ranter:

Who, besides the Israelis, noticed the Hamas video mocking Gilad Shalit?

Owen

June 7th, 2010 1:49pm

Mel, take this post down. The Israel PR machine now think it makes Israel look heartless and out of touch with world opinion.

thetallguy

June 7th, 2010 4:40pm

9 dead and you all think it's funny.

That pretty well says it all.

Harold

June 7th, 2010 6:57pm

I am told that one of those behind this jolly jolly jape is the deputy editor of the Jerusalem Post. Does this mean that it reflects the moral instincts of mainstream Israel, and not just of the conduits for its more rabid propaganda, whose moral instincts can be expected to be deadened by so often being required to "say the thing which is not"?

Adam B.

June 7th, 2010 11:13pm

The video mocks the hyopocrisy of the media and world bodies and the inversion of truth and lies.

This flotilla was manned by the IHH, a jihadist antisemitic terror supporting organization.

alexandre1

June 9th, 2010 3:29pm

Miranda Rose Smith - your comment makes no sense - videos celebrating the deaths of Israelis, Americans and Brit have been made regularly for many years - decapitations anyone?

Harold - I would have thought that even a deaf horse would have noticed that the Israelis have long been the losers in the propaganda war - this video is a rare exception to the rule, because this time the media's reaction has been so patently absurd - except to sanctimonious Israel-baiters, of course
