The BBC maintains its impeccable even-handedness between murderer and victim

11:19pm

With its customary moral inversion which automatically turns Israeli victimisation into Israeli aggression, the BBC reports today’s Gaza anti-tank missile attack on an Israeli school bus this way:

Israeli forces strike after attack on bus.

Israeli tanks, helicopters and planes have struck Gaza after an anti-tank missile fired from the Palestinian territory hit a bus in southern Israel.

A 16 year-old boy was critically injured in the attack, and the bus driver was also hurt.  But for the BBC, the real news was the Israeli response. The fact that Gaza terrorists tried to kill Israeli schoolchildren clearly does not register with the BBC as an important enough development to merit leading its story. Indeed, the BBC clearly does not register the moral difference between Israeli victimisation and Hamas aggression at all. For in a sidebar...

For Israel-bashers, recantation is heresy

10:05pm

The reaction to Richard Goldstone’s recantation of his infamous report has been as instructive as it is predictable. The haters of Israel will not allow the facts to get in the way of the hate – even when the very author of the report they have used to foment that hate has now recanted his pivotal allegation and pulled the rug from under their feet.

In his article, Goldstone says he now accepts that Israel did not intentionally kill civilians in Gaza. The most terrible element of his report was the assertion that it had done so, turning Israel’s actions in Cast Lead from a justifiable defence of its citizens against attack into a monstrous and evil intention to kill the innocent, and thus opening up the suggestion it may have committed crimes against humanity. That is the blood libel...

The real cause of the Middle East conflict

1:08pm

At Hudson.org, Mark Silverberg lays out the perverse flaws in the attitude towards Israel being taken by the US government and other western countries. Observing that the Obama administration constantly blames Israel for not making enough concessions while making no such demands of Mahmoud Abbas and his cronies, Silverberg notes that it is only Israel that has made concessions:

Recent unreciprocated concessions also include Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's acceptance of Palestinian statehood, and the concept of two states for two peoples...Netanyahu temporarily prohibited Jewish construction on the West Bank; put a hold on Jewish construction in Jerusalem; prohibited Jewish building on the West Bank and Jerusalem following the end of his construction ban; curtailed IDF counter-terrorism operations on the West Bank; looked the other way on illegal Arab construction in Jerusalem; allowed the deployment of a US-trained

Welcome!

12:45pm

A big welcome to The Commentator, the new on-line publication produced by the excellent Robin Shepherd. Robin is a doughty fighter for truth, decency and rationality in the world – and now in The Commentator he has created a vehicle for empowering comrades-in-arms in the defence of civilisation and enabling their voices to be heard too. Today’s inaugural edition sets out its aims:

First, to provide a select but high quality quotient of original, featured news (see top middle of front page), focusing on important issues that are either downplayed or ignored by the mainstream media. We envisage reaching 3-5 new items a day.

Second, to deliver top class commentary on domestic and international issues from the perspective described above. Think the Guardian's Comment is free, and then imagine its equal and opposite.

... Third, to provide a

Richard Goldstone recants. What price the Israel witch-hunt now?

11:16pm

In an extraordinary article in the Washington Post, Richard Goldstone has now admitted that his infamous report was wrong. Having fuelled the blood libel that in Operation Cast Lead in Gaza Israel had targeted civilians and possibly had committed crimes against humanity, he now says that, as a result of the final report of the UN committee of independent experts and other evidence that has emerged since his report was published, he accepts that

civilians were not intentionally targeted as a matter of policy

and further states that

if I had known then what I know now, the Goldstone Report would have been a different document.

What self-serving rubbish. There was ample evidence at the time from numerous sources that Hamas was telling lies about the number of civilians who were killed by Israeli fire....

The Libyan madness

10:57pm

Absolutely priceless -- Mark Steyn on Libya:

If I recall correctly, we went into Libya — or, at any rate, over Libya — to stop the brutal Qaddafi dictatorship killing the Libyan people. And thanks to our efforts a whole new mass movement of freedom-loving democrats now has the opportunity to kill the Libyan people. As the Los Angeles Times reported from Benghazi, these democrats are roaming the city “rousting Libyan blacks and immigrants from sub-Saharan Africa from their homes and holding them for interrogation as suspected mercenaries or government spies.”

According to the New York Times, “Members of the NATO alliance have sternly warned the rebels in Libya not to attack civilians as they push against the regime of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi.” We dropped bombs on Qaddafi’s crowd for attacking civilians, and we’re prepared to do the
