Imagine that the British National Party controls a church and community centre in the
East End of London. Imagine that it receives respectful visits from politicians, and grants from local and national government. Imagine that Prince Charles extends his already unhinged beliefs in
pseudo-science and homeopathic quackery to include neo-fascist race theory, and signals his approval of the BNP by visiting the church. Imagine that Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson follow him.
Imagine that the Lord Chief Justice chooses a BNP church of all places to demand restrictions on the rights off immigrants. Imagine finally that the liberal media stay silent because the BNP has
convinced them that it was the authentic voice an ethnic group called the “whites,” and anyone who criticised its political programme was guilty of the irrational hatred of
"whiteophobic" racism.
Substitute Jamaat-i-Islami for the BNP and you have a precise description of the official indulgence of Islamism at the East London Mosque. The idiot prince and the alternately sinister and cynical Livingstone and Johnson can't stay away. In 2008, the then Lord Chief Justice Lord Phillips had the extraordinary bad taste to announce that he favoured applying Sharia law to British citizens at the Jamaat dominated mosque, and ignored all the grim evidence that it is “discriminatory against women and children in particular”.
I go too far? Perhaps I do. I need to row back and admit that my comparison is unfair to the BNP. In Bangladesh, the local leaders of Jamaat face allegations of complicity in the mass rapes and mass murders inflicted by the Pakistan army during the War of Independence of 1971. (I probably need to tell younger readers, that the crimes were so vicious they shocked a late 20th century, which thought it had seen it all. George Harrison, the Bob Geldof of his day, organised the Bangladesh concert to help the millions of victims.)
Say what you will about the BNP, prosecutors have never accused its members of involvement in the mass murder and mass rape of British citizens. Not that they would hold back if they had the chance, I am sure.
As my old friend and comrade Shiraz Maher wrote in the Wall Street Journal about a visit by the US ambassador, Louis Susman to the mosque:
The best response the mosque can offer to these charges is that the offending speakers were outsiders whose presence at the mosque was the result of some kind of “administrative oversight,” which would not be allowed to occur again."By any measure the East London mosque is a troubling institution. Last year, for example, it hosted an event titled 'The End of Time: A New Beginning,' where pamphlets were distributed showing Manhattan crumbling under a Hadean apocalypse of meteors, which shattered the Statute of Liberty asunder and set the city ablaze. One of the invited speakers, Khalid Yasin, described the beliefs of Christians and Jews as "filth." Most worryingly, the event also featured a live video question-and-answer session with Anwar Al Awlaki, the U.S.-born preacher aligned with al Qaeda."
I am not a BBC basher. I know it has many fine reporters. But this morning it produced one of the its most cowardly pieces of journalism in years. In a report on the mosque for its religious programme Sunday (see here, 30 minutes in) it only allowed one British Muslim to explain that Islamism was a political movement, whose first aim in this country was to regulate the lives and limit the freedoms of British Muslims. That was it. At no point did the tongue-tied reporter dare to stammer out the name of Jamaat, or tell listeners about its connection to the mosque, its ideology or its alleged crimes. I guess he or his producers feared accusations of “Islamophobia” if he did. It was as if a random group of conservative Muslims just happened to be in charge, rather than a sectarian party, striving for ethno-religious power.
As Shiraz concludes:
And it is not only Mr Susman, who has been doing the emboldening, but also the heir to the throne, the former Mayor of London, the current mayor of London, the Lord Chief Justice and the BBC."Ironically, two years ago Jamaat was virtually eliminated as a political force in Bangladesh, winning just two out of 300 seats. By contrast, their allies in Britain still claim to speak for British Muslims while their 'mother party' has been decisively rejected at the ballot box. In contrast to the determination of the Bangladeshi people to reject extremist politics, Mr. Susman has emboldened their British counterparts. This visit comes as a bitter blow to those secular and genuinely progressive Muslims in East London who have been pushing back against the mosque's extremism."
Nick Griffin must be wondering where he went wrong.

Pastor Joseph Goebbels said...
I am writing on behalf of the Church of Adolf Hitler (pbuh), formerly known as the Nazi Party.
Having decided to transform ourselves into a religion, we have abandoned all political ambitions, and intend to concentrate on our objectives of spiritual tranquillity, non-violent world conquest and peaceful extermination of the Jews.
Since we are now a religion rather than a political movement, we demand the following rights and privileges:
- An end to Naziphobia in the media, especially war films showing the Nazis in a bad light.
- Tax exemption for all places of worship including airfields, munitions factories, extermination camps etc.
- Destruction of all blasphemous cartoons of Adolf Hitler(pbuh) produced in the Second World War.
- An apology from the British government for the campaign of Naziphobia waged by Winston Churchill, and the hurt feelings inflicted on the Afrika Korps at El Alamein by the Naziphobic bigot Montgomery.
- An apology from the American government for the insensitivity by the raging Naziphobe Eisenhower for failing to forewarn Nazi community leaders of the D-Day landings, which caused much distress among the peaceloving Nazis occupying Northern France.
- Burning 'Mein Kampf' must become a hate crime.
- Application of our parallel legal system known as 'The Gestapo' within westerm countries.
- Affimative action to promote Nazis to high positions in the security services to maintain community cohesion.
- The occasional Blitzkrieg invasions of sovereign states should NOT be portrayed in the media as being typical of Nazis as a whole, rather they are the work of a tiny minority of extremists who have hijacked a peaceful spiritual movement.
Peace in our time and Heil Hitler!

Surely the author is saying prosecutors wouldn't hold back from accusing the BNP of mass murder etc -- not saying that the BNP wouldn't hold back from committing these crimes.
You don't have to support the BNP (and I certainly don't) to notice the very different way the establishment, including the media, treats these two lots of extremists. Nor to notice that the many atrocities committed and supported by islamists around the world are in a different league from a BNP or EDL punch-up.

December 6th, 2010 12:49am Report this commentNo, Nick Cohen does not seem to be a BBC basher. I am sure that much of the liberal/left tendency apparent in our broadcast media fits comfortably with his world view. Only recently he praised Channel 4 News because it reporters were unashamed to be openly left wing.
A typical example of this would be the 23 November report by Sarah Smith (the C4 News Washington correspondent) in which Oklahoma politicians campaigning against Islamisation were dismissed by her as Islamaphobic. This, presumably, is an instance of praiseworthy reporting refreshingly free of hypocrisy that Cohen so admires.
I, on the other hand, am weary of the righteous, moralising, 'humanitarian', Liberal/Left stance of most of our intelligentsia (and inevitably our media). They see no virtue greater than their precious 'tolerance'. And yet, as Cohen must surely be aware, the Left has so much to be ashamed of in its own blood-soaked history. While this history is shrugged off I find the continual earnest tone of Left leaning TV journalists and reporters (using world events to give the public an education in Liberal/Left values) completely intolerable.

December 6th, 2010 4:55pm Report this commentMercian has a point. It is the liberal left who have brought us to this. But we are a democracy. In the end, democracy will be our downfall, for Islam will prevail through sheer weight of numbers and postal votes.
There is truly no solution that politicians can apply. None of them have the wit or the will to allow a re-alignment hegemony. The default will be the creeping, then the actual domination of Islam. Whilst we operate in a system which criminalises people who speak out against this madness, and while members of the establishment inexplicably encourage them, Islam will march on unhindered.
What is most worrying to me is that we are even behind the fight back as Europeans. Can you imagine British politicians suggesting we ban the burka in public or the building of mosques?
It will end in war and street fighting because the appeasers will shout the loudest until they themselves have the enemy at their doors.

December 7th, 2010 9:53am Report this commentDuring the docu/drama, The Special Relationship, we saw an exultant Clinton urging Blair with the message that the future of both America and Europe would be dominated by 'centre left progressive politics'. He continued along the lines, the right will be denied influence for decades, destined for oblivion as this new wave sweeps the political narrative.
As both the US and Europe, once trapped in the headlight glare of these pumped up, self regarding charlatans returns to the sanity of self preservation, the right is now beginning a new ascendancy.
So much for Mystic Bill, who days after 9/11 proclaimed that the catastrophic terror inflicted upon New York was as direct result of the Crusades.
That was the prevailing mentality. A Millenarian Newton's Cradle where our past imperialistic transgressions are now reaping their just reward.
We bow to Islam because the left somehow feels that we owe them. All manner of convoluted distortion of facts are deployed, viz. (and talking of bowing) Obama's Cairo speech where the basis of knowledge, and technical achievement were Arab constructs to be merely aped by us European ignoramus's.
However this self defeating idiocy hasn't gone down too well in the States as the Mid Term's have shown and that trend is also gaining force in Europe.
Geert Wilders and Elisabeth Sabaditch Woolfe are now both on trial for 'hate speech' in their respective countries. They bucked the left wing system and for once told the truth. For this they are regarded as public hero's and the genie is out. Even Merkel, sensing this swing has declared multiculturalism a disaster.
Unfortunately politicians of this calibre are pretty thin on the ground, especially here in Britain as the Muslim vote gaining sycophancy still holds sway. But the worm is turning.
Islamic over reach is gaining headlines even within a 'play it safe' MSM and issues such as halal meat being forced upon us and Muslim grooming of young white females have hit front page headlines. Unthinkable only a few years back, these tales resound amongst a general public torn between true tolerance and even truer reality.
Left to the herds of bovine politicians, yes, we would dissolve in a whimper but even that cloistered class is feeling the wind of change as anger mounts. The expenses scandal did for them and it still resounds.
Lying cheats may be regarded as the terminology of collective punishment but that's what they feel out there.
Lying cheats who don't give a damn about Britain, merely their own grubby bank balances, is of another stripe and as our country suffers, rage rises.

N. Cohen's paragraph on accusations of rape etc was ambiguously and poorly written. I assume it referred to BNP prosecutors not holding back on accusing the BNP of such if the chance arose, but it could also be meant as assuming the BNP would do it given a chance, who knows.

I'm afraid that's a weak reply (as an opinion).
If there are 1 million voters of any political party (in any election) then there is a problem / agenda that should be addressed- by the mainstream first at least.
Calling them names isn't even close to an acceptable counter- unless you're from the official Far-Left of course.
You mix voters 'of' the BNP and the BNP 'itself' in your post also. Again sloppy.
@ Nick Cohen,
There's a problem. This problem (for you and me) is that people aren't getting along here in the UK in the way they should.
Islam is becoming a hostile and dominant factor in every UK city. In London mass African, Eastern European, Middle Eastern immigration is also a massive factor right now.
The white working class are being obliterated from these areas through a thing called 'colonisation' and this triggers a thing called 'white flight'.
In these scenario's an area goes through a huge trauma- and there's a desperate panic toward the end.
They vote for the BNP.
At this time the ratio will be approximately 25% new comers 75% indiginous. The adjacent district (that will have burst it's borders) will be ethnically dominated by non indiginous communities.
The problem is; the more affluent whites / mix race Brits will be off (and away) before this even becomes an issue for their children / teenagers. The ones left behind will be pretty easy going and believe the media garbage of how fulfilling / diverse / trendy this immigration-cultural oblivon is and most probably be not politicaly motivated (unless there is a major confict of communities going on). The ones that are politically aware (and vote BNP) will now be about 30% of the voting electorate.
The 25% of the ethnic population will be approximately 30% of the voting electorate.
The other 40% will be (in a dying working class area) old guard labour / lib dem.
There will be an unprecedented onslaught against the BNP in the mass and local media- that puts anyone even saying they'd vote for the BNP in immediate danger from thuggish sections of the ethnic minority population.
Then the BNP lose.
Then the BNP go.
Then the area goes.
Like in Tower Hamlets.
But it's still a Labour seat- so job done media, Westminster and establishment elites.
And then when the dust settles there's more stories in the papers, TV that we need more immigration, the host culture is yet again demonised and undermined.
And them someone like you Nick, inside your media bubble realises.
And then starts off every risky peice about this disaster with comparing BNP (whether voters, supporters or members) to mass murderers and rapists?
The working class have been ripped to shreds by your industry Nick.
When the same phenomenon that is decimating the working class, Islam is now looking up and fixing its eyes on wider targets (because it has been allowed to grow to such an extent) you still cannot bear to even relate with the people at the bottom of the pile.
These are same people that you and your establishment mainstream have collectively demonised for the last 4 decades; the British working class.
Enjoy.

This war by other means is even more important, partly because it continues to gentle the West into submission by misinforming the public and partly because this kind of stealth warfare remains curiously and stubbornly below the radar of our intelligentsia and our media.
Let me say, as I always do, that most Muslims are not terrorists and are, themselves, in the clutches of very corrupt and evil leaders who are either old-fashioned tyrants or comprise a new form of totalitarian jihad. Some of the bravest Muslims in the world have been murdered by Muslim tyrants and terrorists, are sitting in Muslim jails, or are living in exile. However, the majority of Muslims have either been brainwashed or simply do not wish to risk their lives or those of their families by taking a stand against Islamic imperialism, colonialism, and intolerance.
They are like the Germans, Austrians, Poles, who did not wish to die in an attempt to assassinate Hitler or his henchmen; or, like many Europeans, who profited, personally, financially, from the Nazi extermination programs aimed at the mentally ill and retarded, the gypsies, the homosexuals, the politicals, and above all, the Jews.'.....
