Read Jeanie's diary and reach for the gin

Sunday, 1st November 2009

Here’s where your money goes. Read it and seethe. Or maybe just sigh a little and fix yourself a stiff drink. I suppose you might hope that things will change, now that Devon is under the control of the Conservative Party. But if you think that you’ve probably had one stiff drink too many; this stuff is so ingrained, irremovable and yet so loathed by the majority of voters.

Oh, I dunno. Maybe it’s a bit unfair to take it out on Jeanie, who seems such a cheerful and well-meaning soul. That’s the problem, of course – most of them are well-meaning and full of the milk of human kindness. Well, full of your milk of human kindness, as it happens, which in a well-meaning manner they cheerfully dispense to such deserving institutions as the Gypsy Roma Traveller Achievment Service. Roll that around your tongue for a while and wonder. (Click on the image to enlarge)

Apparently her nickname was Millie Tant, this a good little quote.
"I sometimes wonder if people think my job is about being the right-on police, ready to correct every politically sensitive gaffe, and it can be a challenge to dispel the myths and help others understand that it is just about fair play for everyone".

excellent, don't you think?. Anyone for a Lynch mob on a Sunday afternoon?

Lupus Lungfish & the other lynch mob enthusiasts

You are barking at the wrong bush. Years ago, making a living, I preached the Japanese approach to problem solving of this sort: ‘Never blame the individual, kick the system.’ Spot on. It ain’t her fault. It wasn’t her who created this insane culture that allows her to dispense whatever it is she’s dispensing (I can barely read the copy). There’re thousands like her, and more will join her ranks unless the insanity gets nipped at the core. The scope for finding new niches of victimhood, real or perceived, and for enlarging this emotionally driven job creation bandwagon extends to infinity. The culprits responsible for it sit not behind her desk, but in the Devon Council and higher, much higher.

The link you’ve suggested has the following sentence in it.

..the carbon clock has just a few minutes to go before it reaches midnight. In villages and towns across the UK, worried citizens can hear the clock ticking…

That’s good, but my favourite that ought to be on U-tube features a well-known British TV reporter who has traveled extensively around the world to spots of high risk from the global warming Armageddon. Here he’s standing at the edge of a drying lake in Africa. The London anchorman asks: ‘What would you like to see happen?’ ‘I wish,’ says the reporter ‘that GW Bush could stand here with me….’ Priceless.

I am part gypsy. I see no issue with gypsies preserving their culture.
We live in a free country. Let people choose what culture they want individually. If a gypsy wants to be a gypsy let them.
If people do not like multiculturalism then lets put the Taliban in power ban all football, opera, music, sports, culture, or is it only "foreign" culture you want to ban. The culture of the white south east elites and their working class stooges in London is the only one we can have.
If you want to ban romana gypises then you must ban Catholics, jews, communists, oh and also anglo saxons. After all we can only have one "culture" as Cromwel, and Edward the first would agree.

Could this woman be a Mary Seacole for our times?

A quick Google turned up the following link, which reveals that Jeanie is the co-author (with someone called Simon Blake) of a book called Sex, Alcohol and Other Drugs: Exploring the Links in Young People's Lives.

http://www.cypnow.co.uk/Archive/login/750387/

The book sounds great, doesn't it? Running to 100 pages and published last year by something called the National Children's Bureau. All very worthwhile, I'm sure, and only 17 English pounds. There aren't any reviews on Amazon, but here's the blurb for your reading pleasure:

For young people, sexual activity and the use of alcohol and other drugs are entwined. But the support and education we offer them often treats these issues in isolation. Drawing heavily on the perspectives of young people, professionals and research, Sex, Alcohol and Other Drugs provides a much needed foundation for developing policy and practice that is relevant to young people's lives and addresses the issues in a holistic fashion. It explores young people's opinions about the support they want, and the implications of this for policy and practice. Case studies and practical ideas are used throughout to illustrate how practitioners can address the links between sex, alcohol and other drugs with young people.

Most people rund here that people call gypsies are no more roma than I am. They come from Ireland and their culture is living off the rest of us. They pay no taxes. They steal. Their campsites are a hideous blight and they fill the river with junk. Perhaps there ARE Roma somewhere else with caravans and glass and all that but I've never seen them. THIS lot I have no time for and I feel towards them as I do towards drug addicts They are a drain on the public purse. In other words they are spending MY money to finance THEIR idleness and petty crime. And a bit of washing would do no harm.

Lupus

November 2nd, 2009 8:10am

Dirty Euro-Your Gypsies nowadays don't really have much to do with Roma culture do they. They seem to enjoy ripping off old grannies and laying dodgy tarmac whilst ignoring planning law and generally making a right mess. If they all looked like the girl in the old Flake ad. I wouldn't have a problem.

I didn't know that Devon was so packed with pederasts.

I wonder if they have anyone to support the native culture, music, history etc?

Paul B

November 2nd, 2009 10:27am

Fergus, I agree with your blog, accept for one point. They, the tinkers or gypsys you refr to are not involved in petty crime. They are involved in major crime right across the nation. Distraction burglary, thefts of metal, agricultural equipment, major stately home break ins, all this is carries out by our friendly gypsy friends. The country knows it, but as a collective are scared to voice it.

Would you like drive tarmaced, or ridge tiles repointed?

David

November 2nd, 2009 12:01pm

The dispiriting truth is that there are tens of thousands of people like this on the public payroll, all dependent on re-circulating the same jargon-laden guff amongst themselves, clinging collectively to the misguided belief that they're of value, awarding themselves increments and jobs and places on committees and little working groups, going to conferences, meetings and training courses, developing action plans and strategies and schemes, writing reports which no-one reads, continuing to entrench and expand their reach year-on-year.

It's now going to be next to impossible to eradicate this blight to any meaningful degree, because spending money on these things has long passed the stage of being considered optional in even the most obscure public body.

Dirty Euro

November 2nd, 2009 1:24pm

Paul B, Fergus, Lupus you talk bigoted evil drivel. This is why they need equality groups to help gypsies face up to bigoted idiots like you.
How do you know every con artist is a gypsy and that every criminal is a gypsy?
Your comments prove why gypsies need resilience. In my town there were some gypsies who were beaten up by the same bullies, that bullies bullied other people, they were the yobs not their victims but they. They were the homophobes, the racists the bullies, yet still justified beating gypsies on the basis they must automatically be criminals.

It is like the joke of 4 yobs who go out and beat up blacks and gypsies, and gays. The next day the yobs read in the paper that there are yobs on the prowl beating up innocent people the yobs say to themselves yeah I think we saw them. It might have been those black, gypsies and gays we saw. Someone really needs to take care of those blacks gays and gypsies. Never do the yobbish racists realize they are yobs and scum.
The NAZI SA was filled with nutjobs like that.

As Jeannie so rightly says '..we can all learn from one another' so I've a suggestion from her next time she's meeting Gypsy Traveller Romas. After finishing building their resilience why doesnt she pass the hat around and say "The law abiding mugs of this country normally pay my wages but in the interests of inclusivity I'm inviting yourselves to contribute for a change" She could then demonstrate her own resilience.

The way to deal with yobs bashing Roma or gays is to sent the violent bastards down till they squeak. Instead, we don’t really punish the former, and keep outreaching the latter with easily predictable results: more bashing and more outreaching. The money seems to be in short supply for nearly everything (e.g. the Territorials) except outreaching and suchlike. Doesn’t feel right, does it?

Dirty Euro

Satire of those who hate gypsies.

Are these the same Englishmen who once tried to rob my house but went to the next door one instead, where the English wife beater lived, Like I says that proves all Englishmen are wife beaters or robbers. I say all Englishmen are evil and must be put in the death camps, when will the PC gone mad government learn the truth that all we non englishmen know, every single Englishman is a thief a wife beater or both, and must be killed like the gypsies.

Oh no you see what I have done there! I have made a irrational reaction to an Englishman committing a crime, and deciding all Englishmen are criminals, I have confused it with the perfectly rational sane reaction of wanting all gypsies killed when one gypsy commits a crime.
Obviously when an English man commits a crime, that is not be blamed on all Englishmen but when a gypsy does a crime it was all of them. I see. Right wing common sense logic.
I have been taught the true values of English tolerance.

Of course there are exceptions to every rule and there must be some pleasant gypsies somewhere. The trouble is most don't exactly go out of their way to endear themselves to the rest of us. If they travelled about in those nice horse drawn caravans selling lucky heather and telling fortunes for a couple of groats then nobody would have an issue. But we all know how they really carry on and its bang out of order.

U must be a plant, it cannot be for real. What do you reckon, is the Chinese community here free of crime? Nope. Yet nobody has ever classed them all as criminals. Why then the generally held view on the community you’re so keen on? Tell you why. They can and do get away with breaking the law with impunity. Have a go, drive your car and park it in a farmer’s field. The cops will be after you before you switch the engine off. Unless, of course, you scare them off with the ‘Uman Rights Charter’, and claim your ancient right to roam as you please.

You claim a stereotype is always true. If a racist myth develops it is in your view always actually true.
OK then answer me this?
1. Why are English men stereotyped by racists abroad as all being gay?
In Egypt they make movies about English men being unmanly. In the USA they make movies about the English being sinister and arrogant. Must all be true then! under your logic. I will remember that If the English want to live by stereotypes I will. You win.
The pub bigot is always the fountain of all knowledge in your mind.

Any of us may be right or wrong, but in assigning a set of characteristics to any universe of big numbers we can hardly avoid ‘stereotyping’ based on personal experiences, hearsay etc., and not only in pubs: Tesco’s prices the lowest, Toyota cars more reliable, the Scots whatever… This in no way implies that one is unlikely to meet a generous Scot (please, our Scottish friends, spare me the kicking). My example of comparing the Chinese and Roma communities may smell of imperfection, what with my level of English would you expect, but unless you’ve lived on another planet you couldn’t have failed to notice that even our sanitized and politically correct media furnish us with examples that, sorry to hammer the point, re-enforce the stereotyping of that group amongst us that you so valiantly defend. No hard feeling between us, I hope.

I've always (well, for some time, anyway) thought that ultra-PC afficionado's like Ms. (I'm doing it myself now) Tant, I mean Lynch, actually support and encourage degenerate behaviour. After all, there's a distinct lack of moral opprobrium or critical judgement regarding such basic issues as the effects upon wider society of the personal conduct of feckless individuals in Lynch and co's self-righteous and self-serving pronouncements. I fancy that she (and her like) actually perpetuate social problems rather than address and constructively deal with them in any genuinely forward-thinking way.

Mind you, I might just be a right-of-centre, bigoted, unenlightened and ignorant reactionary. Makes one think...
