What are 50 teenagers doing at Glyndebourne? Henrietta Bredin finds out
There’s a lot of repetition and fine-tuning, musically and dramatically. Quite often, it’s getting the hang of how to sing and act and move at the same time that trips people up. If they get too caught up in the drama, it’s all too easy to forget to come in bang on time with the notes. And both conductor and director are keen to make sure that all the performers get their words across.
Excitement is already running high and by the time the show opens on 3 March it will probably be at fever pitch, but there’ll be no messing about, the intensity and energy will all be focused on the performance because these novice singers are already professionals.
