What makes this particularly sickening is that, as in so many countries in Europe, there was massive collaboration in Belarus between the Nazis and the non-Jewish local population. That is the single most important reason why the Nazis found it rather easy to murder 800,000 Jews in Belarus. If you can't imagine 800,000 people just think of Liverpool and Belfast being completely wiped off the map.
