According to Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, we should do more to welcome immigrants.
Be that as it may, there are few public figures less qualified to offer moral leadership than the man who knowingly appointed a paedophile priest to a chaplaincy at Gatwick Airport.
Given that I regularly point out the shortcomings of the MCB, and stress the need for Muslims to make clear their total condemnation of terrorism, it's appropriate that I also point out the disgrace that the Cardinal brings to his position.
And it's equally a standing rebuke to the Catholic church in the UK that this man has been allowed to remain in his position instead of being forced to resign in shame.

December 30th, 2007 12:40amWell I don't agree the Bishop should have been "forced" to resign because of the criminal behaviour of somebody else. Far better that he should learn from his mistakes and work harder as a leader to help put right the mess which led to this terrible thing happening, in my opinion.
