Oi gevalt!

Friday, 15th February 2008

There really is only one word for Oliver Kamm: unique.

UPDATE: Oh dear, not a very clear post. I think you'd have to be telepathic to realise my headline's intention. It was Media Lens to which I was referring, not the wonderful Oliver.

Stephen, I'm not very clear what you're trying to say: Oi gevalt is usually an expression of dismay, but Kamm's writing in this piece - as in his others - is well researched, carefully argued, and a model of good prose, and thus anything but dismaying. He arguably _is_ unique, but you almost make it sound like a bad thing. Can you clarify? Thanks

Was 'unique quite the right word? Reading Oliver Kamm's stuff I was struck by his lack of lucidity. It put me in mind of Matthew Parris' wonderful description of the mental contortions and thought patterns (so far as they are discernible) of Rowan Williams.
