Conclusive proof of the decline in university standards. The Guardian has this in its coverage of this week's Parliament rooft top protestors:
Plane Stupid is an umbrella group, run along anarchist principles, for around 150 UK climate change campaigners. A snapshot of the rooftop five - Thompson, George, Tamsin Omond, Olivia Chessell and Leo Murray - shows all but one was university educated. As Ben Brogan put it on the day:
As this security breach will doubtless trigger another clampdown that will make access to the Palace of Westminster even more difficult for the law-abiding, I will now devote the rest of my days to campaigning FOR a third runway at Heathrow, and preferably a fourth - through the gardens of these idiots.

March 1st, 2008 8:47pmMy dog, a sanguine and rather perceptive Golden Retriever, has a degree in Media Studies from the University of North London, and became both irritated and incontinent when reading the headline of your post. That she was permitted to attend university and gain a degree is surely a tribute to NuLabour.

March 1st, 2008 9:24pmUNL was described as being the only university you could get into without even applying. I myself am living proof of this, but so, apparently, is Mr Barry's dog: very glad to have it on board.

March 2nd, 2008 1:56pmsince when does being university educated preclude one from being an idiot? Think about it.

March 3rd, 2008 8:01amTo cast them of as idiots seems wholly unjustified. Number one, they have highlighted a flaw in the security at Westminster. As much as I don't agree with the vast amount of vocal effluence that spews from Cameron’s mouth on a perpetual basis the last thing I want to see is him or anyone else hurt. Number two, they brought about a vast amount of media coverage to their particular cause. Despite Gordon Bennett Brown axiomatically saying "the only way to make change is in the chamber" you can't help but wonder if they made more of an impact then a meagre petition would have done. Number three, when the young chap spoke on the phone you could tell he was by no means an idiot. Now if you want a prime example of university educated idiots come and meet the lecturers at the University of Hertfordshire’s Philosophy department, the students are ok though.
