Change

Monday, 10th March 2008

You will have noticed that the design of this site has changed a little. There is now a continue reading link to press on the longer posts, and only the most recent five or so  posts appear on the front page.

I hope this doesn't inconvenience you. The powers that be tell me it's all to do with speeding up the time it takes for the page to load.

If you have strong feelings about this, let me know.

I *hate* the continue reading thing. The main CoffeeHouse site has had it for a while and it sucks. It might speed up loading, but it also speeds up my perusal time. It makes me much less likely to read entries.

How come Melanie Phillips gets those great little pics to illustrate her posts and Pollard gets nada?

I second Chris's comment. Many people have already complained about this over at Coffee House but it seems that the IT person's view is more important than that of us end users.

I also really hate it. I also dislike the fact that the censors at the Speccie have way too much time on their hands.

The new format is very irritating

I hate it. Though I suppose you can sell adverts on both pages that way.

"Continue reading" might be justified on a very long post but not on the short articles like say "Torture Kamm". More irritating is the way the main site now buries articles under multiple navigation. One click to go from the home page to the magazine. One click more to go to what you presume is the article. Wrong, it's just a teaser, another click is needed to get to the article itself and then it is frequently split into 5 or more pages for no apparent reasons and too often the last page is virtually blank.
