This explains a lot about George Monbiot's pieces:
He came back to work in Britain after being pronounced clinically dead in hospital in north-western Kenya, after contracting cerebral malaria.

June 1st, 2008 1:26pmWhat a squalid, sick little post.
It's one thing to post an opinion, it's another to write what you have.
You don't just character assasinate, the vindictive, vengeful everyday fare of the Jewish Lobby, no, you are even worse.
The more flatulent filth you and your readers spout, the more detached from reality you become and the more repulsive.

June 2nd, 2008 11:52amShould all those who disagree with Bolton have their illnesses and medical histories scrutinised by journalists in such an unpleasant way? Does it contribute anything to a debate, or just heap insult?
Is Pollard a serious journalist or a a spiteful little blog thug?
As for the protestations I ve read here about the Jewish Lobby, I should imagine you would be PROUD of your Jewish Lobbbies - seriously well run, dynamic, professional outfits that repatriate billions back to Israel. In the States AIPAC is the most effective PAC of all.
Why pretend otherwise?

June 2nd, 2008 12:49pmMr.Pollard,
I assume you think this post is funny.
I think it's nasty, and it doesn't move any discussion any further forward at all.
Spend some time reading Rod Liddle if you want to see humour used to serious purpose.
Spend some time reading Melanie Phillips for strong opinions and clear thinking in clear language.
Try aspiring to their standards.

June 2nd, 2008 2:52pmStephen-Over half term in the country I read Monbiot's collected works from his Guardian column entitled "Bring on the Apocalypse" a reference to loony US Christians & the rapture when all true believers will be raptured into heaven & the rest us will burn in the Apocalypse except Jews who weirdly will be given the chance to convert or face the wrath of god.
I found his essays to be thought provoking I found myself disagreeing vehemently on some economic issues I was the most selfish person in Britain & he was a out of step with me on the war (just a bit too peacenik for me) although I think the war was a terrible mistake.
On other issues like science & religion I pretty much completely agreed with him especially on science and climate change his research is meticulous & those on the right who should from the hip on science find his well researched articles hard to refute so they just resort to abuse . I did find myself disagreeing with his conclusions about what to do about climate change but the science behind I'm sure he's spot on.
As for his criticism of Bolton well that looks pretty main stream now even the Presidents former Press Secretary Scott McLellan's has said that Bush pursued an aggressive war to secure his place in history
"Every president wants to achieve greatness but few do. As I have heard Bush say, only a wartime president is likely to achieve greatness,"
And
"I do not know how the war will be viewed decades from now. What I do know is that war should be waged only when necessary and the Iraq war was not necessary. Waging an unnecessary war is a grave mistake. But I’ve come to believe that an even more fundamental mistake was made — a decision to turn away from candour and honesty when those qualities were most needed."
Could be straight out of a Monbiot column in the Guardian rather the Bush's spin doctor in chief.
Monbiot like Melanie Phillips, The Hitchen Brothers, Andrew Sullivan, Rod Liddle, Matthew Parris, Simon Jenkins, Clarkson & you & Clive are some of the most interesting journalists around with strong opinions I love reading & shouting at you all. If you are going to have a go criticise his writings
You will find them all here.

Beware you might find yourself agreeing with him more than you think
Marcus Cotswell
June 2nd, 2008 3:08pmSteven, you have absolutely no reason to take any notice of my opinion ("power without responsibility" and all that) but please take it from me, as someone who generally enjoys your writing, that this sort of tasteless ad hominem attack does you no credit whatever an inclines me to look rather more favourably on Mr Monbiot than I might otherwise have done. Nor is this the only such instance of your playing the man rather than the ball. I hope you will in future desist from such posts.

June 3rd, 2008 7:58pmYes patricia, I don't suffer fools gladly and am prone to laugh loudly whenever "The Jewish Lobby" is mentioned.
Do you by any chance suffer from something like Tourette's Syndrome?
Your post of June 1st, 2008 1:26pm contains the following:
"squalid, sick... vindictive, vengeful... flatulent filth... repulsive."
Are you in some way challenged dear?

June 16th, 2008 2:55pmStanislav,
You're a hoot.
A giggling idiot who laughs out loud whenever somebody says something you disagree with.
What else don't they have in your world? A circular earth?
