More on 42

Wednesday, 11th June 2008

Hmmm. Frank Dobson is against 42 days. (He was on the Today programme mouthing off). I guess that points to it being a sensible, sagacious, important measure.

And now this:

The government is expected to offer a last-minute compensation deal to help push the 42-day detention plan through. Under this, any suspect held for more than 28 days and later not charged could receive £3,000 for each extra day in custody, the BBC has learned.

That's 42 grand. Blimey. It's been a tough few months. We've had the bedroom and kitchen painted, the garden smartened and all sorts of other expenses. I could do with the extra cash. I'd spend a fortnight away from home, free meals, no charge at the end of it, for £42,000. Perhaps West Midland Police will help me out?

Yeah, who needs the welfare state when we've got the Brown Government's methodology of passing legislation: if you can't win the argument, buy the votes with taxpayers' money.

The Islamist cells will be salivating at the prospect of this cash injection. As well as the madrassas turning out teenage suicide bombers, they can now extend the syllabus to include "42 days delay in meeting the 72 virgins may be tough, but someone's got to do it".

The Daily Mash is right on there on the "cash for jihad" scam:

MILLIONS PLANNING £3000 'I'M A TERRORIST' SCAM

MILLIONS of people across the UK are hoping to earn up to £3000 a day by pretending to be a terrorist.

With the government offering generous compensation to anyone held without charge for more than 28 days, enterprising Britons are already getting up to speed with key Jihadist phrases.

Douglas Adams predicted that 42 was the answer to life, universe and everything. It has commenced with David Davis who is obviously been a victim of some gypsy curse as the withcraft continues the disintegrate his remaining brain cells. It being friday the 13th adds to the mysterious Irish voting who seem prone to shooting themselves in the foot... again. Shell tanker drivers forget that they could always leave their jobs and work for another trucking company since they claim are better paid than them... I would.

Could this be the beginning of the end? What a shame Douglas Adams isn't with us anymore to shed some light on the madness that prevails.
