Press TV and me

Tuesday, 1st July 2008

It's the little things that brighten the day, such a a nice cleansing row.

Just picked up a call from Press TV, asking me to do a programme. I replied that I would have nothing to do with the channel. 'Why?' asked the mock-incredulous producer.

'Because', I said,'you are a propaganda arm of a regime which seeks the removal of Israel and Israelis from the face of the earth and funds terror organisations. I think your channel is a disgrace'.

'Don't you want to hear who else is on the panel?'

'I don't care who else is on - it doesn't affect my position.'

'Your position is a disgrace. You have your facts messed up. What evidence do you have?'

'I'm not interested in an argument with you. I won't do your programme, and that's all there is to say'.

What fascinates me about the conversation is that it is a departure from the usual line, that Press TV is independent, not propaganda.  Because the producer chose to respond to me not by saying that I could put my case to Iran, that it has editorial control or any of the usual sophistry, but by actually arguing with me about Iran and defending it.

So the next time you hear some self-justifying spin from Press TV, remember what its own employees think - that Ahmadinejad is the good guy.

(Actually, I do wonder who else was on the panel?)

I have now moderated my own position on Press TV. Instead of flat-out refusing their flattering invitations, I shall now agree to appear.
However once seated in front of the cameras, I will simply repeat the single word "f*ck" constantly.

Hasn't stopped Ken's tormentor in chief "Lord Haw Haw" Andrew Gilligan from the Evening Boris having a programme on Press TV. The rank hypocrisy of Gilligan's position considering the battering he gave & rightly so of Kens links to dodgy islamists wihout ever mentioning that he was raking in blood money from one of the worlds most evil regime's . Yuck

I totally support your position on this.

Damn right. And I agree that the glovepuppet's reaction was revealing.

Buggers pay late too.....

Have to admit though, when I went on it was quite fun. Three rabid lefties (we were discussing globalisation) and me. At one point all agreed that Islamic finance was the way forward, so much better than this dreadful capitalism stuff. I had to point out that Islamic finance is capitalism: you buy a share in an enterprise and you share the profits. Just like equity investment.

The major ooutcome for me though was finding out that I do indeed have a great face for radio.

Very revealing indeed.

I'd go on and say just that. It might wake up their audience, who probably hear nothing but the party line. You owe it to the world, Stephen.

Its wondeful when people look asleep but their not, then again sometimes they are, I make no assumptions.

Maybe it would be a good idea not to give Press TV any coverage?

Nice of them to ask.

I wonder when Sky or Fox will interview Gorgeous George or anybody else who gives a realistic and accurate view on Israel.

"Nice of them to ask" very true.

michael, if you think Galloway has a "realistic view" you need your head examining. The man is a hate merchant.

Why didn't you go on Press TV and say all that? They would have allowed you to. They knew you were a Zionist before they called you. Maybe you were afraid of having your stupid views destroyed. But I guess it's much easier to pontificate when you're not challenged.

I thought you would have wanted your odious views to be given a wider arena instead of restricting your bile to the decidedly unbalanced Spectator. Or are you afraid of an intellectual debate where someone might just challenge your views.
Press TV is independent, something which sadly can not be said about a man who is afraid of a free and frank discussion.
I hope the poor producer who had to listen to your claptrap writes a similarly spiteful piece about his conversation with you.

Didn't take long for the lunatics to join the thread, did it? Those who think that GG is sane, never mind well-informed, and those who think that Zionism is 'stupid'. Where are the men in the white coats when you need them?

There is obviously censorship here as my previous post was deleted without explanation. Obviously this is not a free and fair medium. Might just as well be in a country like Iran!

I have worked there and actually there is a wide range of thought and opinion. Everybody has their own reasons for working there; for some people they just want a job, or to get into the media; for other people it gives them a platform to say things that our so-called 'free press' in Britain would never allow to be said. Have a beautiful day.

I am the Producer mentioned in the above article. I recently sent the following email to Stephen.

Dear Stephen

I have just noticed your article about our conversation published in the Spectator. I must apologise if I caused you or your views any offence, however, I do not take kindly at being accused personally of spreading propaganda in the aid of ‘wiping Israel off the map,’ in doing so, I presume, killing millions of human beings. Any outburst from me stems from my personal offence at such an accusation.

I could give you the usual spiel about Press TV being fair and balanced, however, the only way for you to find out is to watch Press TV (we are scheduled to launch on SKY on the 1st December) or if you were to come on the show. I am still very keen to have you on, especially as your views, represent those of many. I also have no doubt that you would be very articulate.

You asked rhetorically, “I do wonder who else was on the panel.” I will give you an actual answer:

You were asked on a show entitled, ‘From PM to Peace Envoy; does Blair deserve it?’

Hosted by Nick Ferrari, the panel was as follows;

Ian Black – Middle East Editor, The Guardian

John Hilary – Executive Director, War on Want

Anthony Seldon – Political Commentator and biographer

Lord David Steel – Liberal Democrat Peer

You can watch the show at the following link;

Please get back to me if you’d like me to contact you in regards future shows – come on Stephen, if nothing else, you could write up another story about you experience.

Sincerely Kind Regards

Blimey,
What an oaf you are Pollard - although i suppose you will do the same to me as you did to Paul and delete this post.
Just goes to show the world we are living in when Pollard censors his posts and yet refuses to air his views on an iranian TV station which offers no censorship.
Looks like a double whammy

There is always a bias when one belongs to a certain religion. For by being a part of such a belief the mind is programmed to what is seen as bad and what is seen as good. I too was programmed as a catholic when I was young but where as I grew older I found out that religion is in reality a man-made institution and not a God-made institution. If it were there would only be one institution. As there are many the whole concept of religion is flawed by man himself. I state these facts as according to information Pollard is Jewish and it is no wonder that he sees PressTV as a just a Muslim mouthpiece for Iran. I would respectfully ask Pollard to open up his mind a little and to share his views unless he is embarrassed by them. For only through dialog can indifferences be resolved.
