What have Barack Obama and the Pope got in common?

They've both shafted Gordon Brown.

Sky reports that the visit to Israel of our woeful excuse for a PM has barely been noticed, as Israel waits excitedly for Barack Obama. And the same thing happened in April when Mr B's visit to the US was overshadowed by that of the Pope.

So what? Who, *here*, cares that Israelis - or international hacks for that matter - care not hugely much about the not hugely consequential visit of a not hugely interested 2nd or 3rd tier player? The only lesson in this perhaps is that modern British Prime Ministers should waste slightly less of their time pointlessly junketing round bits of the world where we have zero responsibilities and next to no influence.
