The Israel lobby again

Monday, 11th August 2008

I wondered how long it would be before someone managed to get a dig in at Israel over the Russian bombing of Georgia. So congratulations to James Poulos at - where else? - the Guardian for, as far as I am aware, being the first:

The anti-Russia lobby is giving the pro-Israel lobby a run for its money, hyping the settling of scores among two European, Orthodox Christian countries as more dangerous to the peace and security of the west than any clash of civilisations or jihad ever was.

You re wrong, as usual.

Its in the FT too.

Are you suggesting Isreal does not sell weaponry to Georgia?

And remind me, was it not Israel that sold Galtieri the Exocets that destroyed HMS Sheffield?

"was it not Israel that sold Galtieri the Exocets that destroyed HMS Sheffield?"

No, it was France.

michael,

As a stickler for accuracy, you might like to know that Argentina's Exocets were supplied by the French-owned Aérospatiale (source. But no matter; for your type it's always the Jews' fault, isn't it?

The usual suspects - IndyMedia, Lenin's Tomb etc. are already blaming this conflict on the USA and Israel. How predictable...

Err, Yaffle, for his type it's always the Joos. We know his mindset, and it's not pretty.

As to the a-holes at Al Guardian - what else did you expect?

Last Wednesday the Grauniad carried a long (over 4,000 words) article by Tanya Gold about a middle-aged German, related by marriage to the Hitler family, who some years ago converted to Judaism and now lives in Israel. I found it very interesting, partly because it confirms a rumour that I had previously been tempted to dismiss as a fabrication, and secondly because, unusually for the Grauniad, it presents Israel, the Israelis and Judaism in a favourable light. It occurred to me to wonder how it had got past the Grauniad censorship. But then, almost at the very end, we come across the mandatory boost for the Palestinian cause. Because the convert’s Israeli sons “talk about the Palestinians with contempt” (sic), he calls one of them “a fascist” and another one (or perhaps the same one, it’s not clear) as “even partially racist”.

Despite this contrived and rather silly sting in the tail, it’s still an interesting piece and a good read:

MICHAEL, WILL YOU ADMIT YOUR MISTAKE?

The Tsunami which claimed the lives of over a quarter of a million people in South East Asia was caused by an Israeli - Indian nuclear test in the Indian ocean, according to an article in the Egyptian press. Yep, those Jooz have a lot to answer for.

"MICHAEL, WILL YOU ADMIT YOUR MISTAKE"?

What an ignorant fool Michael has shown up himself to be. What is more disturbing is how long must he have spread this falsehood and how many people, albeit just as ignorant as he, must he have turned against Israel with this crap!

Tanya Gold used to write a lot for the Mail. Why has she gone to the Gurnydrone? She's a Jewish girl and so maybe that's why she was left well alone, but why did she put in that silly ending - to butter up Rusbridger?

Oh, Tanya, I'm sorry but not even you will ever make me shell out for The Guardigroan.

BTW Peter Preston had to write through gritted teeth in the Standard last week that the Grauniad's sales were down by more than 6%. Boo hoo.

Look at how Al Beeb sums up Israel's latest offer in its first paragraph:

"Israel has offered a peace deal to the Palestinians which would annex 7.3% of the West Bank and keep the largest settlements, Israeli reports say."

Sickening. Someone please stop this horrendous pseudo-liberal brainwashing of people who don't know any better!

Davey Boy, thank you for that link to a convincing refutation of the “apartheid” fallacy, which I would otherwise have missed. Warren Goldstein, the Chief Rabbi of South Africa, writes at one point: “Our South African experience has taught us that you cannot make peace unless both parties to the conflict wish to resolve it. When the Arab world is ready to make peace, Israel will be there.”

The question is whether the Arab world is ever going to be ready to make peace. For the time being, peace seems to be still a mirage. There is only one obstacle in the way of creating a Palestinian state, and that is the revanchist policy pursued by the Palestinians themselves, with their refusal to accept that Israel won its War of Independence in 1948-49. The Palestinian refusal to recognize that outcome of the 1948-49 Arab-Israeli war, whatever name you choose to call it by, amounts to a revanchist policy that makes negotiations, in any meaningful sense of the word, essentially pointless.

A majority of Israelis say they in favour of the two-state solution. Yasser Arafat was against it for many years but eventually accepted it, as does Abbas and the PA leadership. But Hamas won in Gaza because most Palestinians prefer to hold out for their one-state solution, meaning a state in which there would be no room for Jews. The upshot of all this is that the present situation is going to continue for the foreseeable future: low-level violence accompanied by the slow but constant growth of Jewish settlements in the West Bank.

Under Kadima or the Likud, under Olmert, Livni, Netanyahu or any other foreseeable prime minister, the Israelis and the PA will, in all likelihood, carry on going through the motions of holding negotiations but they both know they’re not really moving anywhere. At best, holding negotiations – or seeming to hold them – provides diplomatic cover for the continuation of the status quo.

"And remind me, was it not Israel that sold Galtieri the Exocets that destroyed HMS Sheffield?"

The reader is thinking of the Kfir aircraft that Israel had sold to the Argentines.

Israel sells weaponry to the Georgians, it's number 10 in the list of suppliers.
