That was certainly what it turned out to be today with some shock results. But I managed to get the winner of the first race POKER DE SIVOLA, even if I did give you 3 others. But at 14-1 SP or bigger at early doors, you would have made a profit backing them all.
After that it was downhill. I was annoyed with myself for not mentioning the winner of the next, PEDDLER’S CROSS, as it had originally been on my list and I did have a modest amount on it at the last minute - but that doesn`t help any of you.
I would never have found the winner of the 2.40 WEAPON’S AMNESTY and although BIG ZEB, who won the Champion Chase, was well fancied by some, I didn`t have him down because I thought nothing would beat MASTERMINDED, who was unplaced.
I would never have backed SPIRIT RIVER or SANCTUAIRE, winners of the next two, and a 40-1 outsider won the Bumper. If only...
So I am up on the day but only just.
I will be back tomorrow in the usual triumph of hope over experience, with my bets for Day 3, always known as Ladies Day at the Cheltenham Festival. Let’s see if it keeps its word.
