Taki lives the high life

Although I have to declare an interest, by far the most authentic comments about the Bhutto murder were those made by Jemima Khan in the Sunday Telegraph. As Jemima pointed out, Benazir never repealed the Hudood Ordinances, Pakistan’s ‘heinous’ laws that make no distinction between rape and adultery, failed to pass a single major law and ‘kowtowed’ to the mullahs and backed the Taliban, which illustrates to me the bankruptcy of America’s foreign policy. All style, no substance. If Benazir represented democracy I am Oprah Winfrey. And I further agree with Jemima when she writes that, if there has to be a Bhutto as successor to Benazir, it should be Fatima Bhutto. At least the name matches. What pisses me off is the manner everyone refers to Benazir’s son as Bilawal Bhutto. It’s Bilawal Zardari, or, better yet, Mr Ten Per Cent junior. If the kid enjoys the benefit of the alleged $1.5 billion his old man stole from the kitty, the least he can do is use his daddy’s name.

i spent christmas at a house party in dankest tuscany where the witless twittering over which order to serve the best wine took an even nuttier dive when the assembled company - Taki readers all and therefore should have known better - seemed to lose any last vestige of sense, awareness or humour and went into terminal bafflement over the Taki/Mary nuptials. This was par for the course with my lot but I'm surprised to read of others falling for this typical Takinese tease. CH

I totally agree with Taki's opinion on the coarse&vulgar Gulagcrates, also known as nouveaux Russians. Still the same for me.
Are by any chance the Guerrand-Hermés related to the Beauharnais?

So right, as usual on all points in re: personalities of the East, from Benazir to Russian Bear-Boors. The war w/Russia was lost w/the able assistance of the Billary Clinton regime's billions in US tax dollars thru the IMF conduit. They now have their nifty new nuclear sub fleet thanks to the hard-working American taxpayer against whom their weapons are now aimed. And adding insult to suicidal injury to the West, the nasty slobs who made possible the rebirth of a solvent Soviet Union are out, about & tormenting the Free World in heretofore unheard-of ways and unplumbed depths of vulgarity, crassness & immorality.
