Are Single Malt Whiskies as complex as wine?

by Henry Rymill on January 9th, 2009 2:50pm

If you go to some whisky aficionado websites you will find tasting notes as passionate and verbose as those for wine. Are some whiskies as complex as wine and can you match food with them?

To the Whisky aficionados the answer must be yes and the best description of all whiskies must be Michael Jackson’s (don’t laugh) books on the subject where he rates them out of a hundred. His “The World Guide to Whisky” is my favourite.

I am a wine merchant but reading his book I would have to say yes.
