The Spectator, in association with the Songlines Estate and Private Cellar, invites you to join us for a fine wine dinner and to meet the winemakers behind one of Australia’s finest estates, Songlines, on Wednesday 17th June, 2009 at The Bleeding Heart, London.
Songlines was described by Steven Spurrier, highly acclaimed wine critic and editor of Decanter, as – “the Latour of the McLaren Vale”.
The Songlines collection comprises a range of wines made from the finest fruit sourced in McLaren Vale – one of the acknowledged homes of great Shiraz – and the Hunter Valley – famed for its distinguished whites.
The partnership includes Martin Krajewski, owner of Bordeaux Château de Sours and two of the world’s most pre-eminent winemakers John Duval, former winemaker of Australia’s iconic red wine, Penfolds Grange, and David Fatches, who honed his winemaking craft at the Wyndham Estate in Hunter Valley.
The combination of their respect for the winemaking traditions established over many centuries in the Old World, together with their experience and desire to harness all the vibrant and expressive characteristics of the best fruit in the New World, makes these wines some of the most characterful and exciting made in Australia today.
The dinner will take place in the atmospheric medieval Crypt at The Bleeding Heart, whose chef has devised a special menu to complement each of the wines.
The following wines will be served:
On arrival, an apéritif of Bylines Semillon 2008,
followed during dinner by
Bylines Chardonnay 2008,
Leylines Shiraz 2007,
Bylines Shiraz 2005
and then
Songlines 2004, 2005 and 2006.
