The great thing about The Spectator is that it services all of your wine needs, from the European classics through to happy wines for daily glugging. Or, as Christmas approaches, for gatherings where you want to serve really nice bottles without emptying your bank account. Tanners of Shrewsbury, one of our favourite partners, has come up with these four smashing wines at discounted prices. These are not, on the whole, for laying down. They are for opening in quantity and for getting the party started. They would, of course, also be excellent with your evening meal or weekend lunch.

The first white is an intriguing and delicious blend from Argentina, the Tierra de Luna, a blend of Chardonnay and the famous South American grape Torrontes (1). The best Torrontes has a light, heady, floral flavour — you could say it dances in the glass, if that didn’t sound too pretentious. The Chardonnay base gives it a mellow weight. Altogether delicious, just right for drinking in quantity, and reduced by £11 a case to £6.99 a bottle.

Our only French choice this week is a vin de pays Sauvignon Blanc from Trois Mouline (2). Reduced by £10 a case, it comes in at £7.35 a bottle, which is roughly half what you would pay for some Sancerres. It has all the grass and gooseberry savour of a good Sauvignon Blanc, but real fruit as well.

Now for the reds, again both from South America. The Altos Pampas del Sur Pinot Noir (3) is of course made from the same grape as Burgundy, and has the appropriate lightness and perfume. It is not a Gevrey-Chambertin, or even a top Oregon Pinot, but what do you expect for £5.85, an £8 a case reduction? To get a good, pleasing Pinot Noir for under six quid is amazing.

As is the Don Cristóbal Bonarda (4) at £7.25, a £6 discount on each case. There seem to be several grapes called Bonarda, but this one is pretty well native to Argentina, where it rivals Malbec and is often every bit as good. A lovely wine that will have your guests holding out their glasses for more. Perfect too with the Boxing Day cold meats.

Delivery, as always, is free, and there is a sample case containing three of each wine.
