Politics is still moving at breakneck speed – David Cameron is in Brussels and meanwhile, in Brussels, the fight to succeed him is intensifying. The bookies suggest Theresa May is pulling ahead of Boris in the race to become the next Prime Minister. But others including Jeremy Hunt, Stephen Crabb and Sajid Javid are also throwing their hats into the ring. So who will come out on top? On today’s Coffee House Shots podcast, James Forsyth tells Fraser Nelson:
‘I think what I would say is there is serious doubt about Boris but no great enthusiasm for Theresa May among MPs. Those, I think, will be the final two. Even people who are supporting the Stephen Crabb and Sajid Javid joint ticket accept that ultimately it’s going to end up as Boris vs Theresa out in the country’
So why are those with little hope of winning bothering enter the Tory leadership race? Isabel Hardman tells Fraser that:
‘I think Jeremy Hunt is running more to make a point about the second referendum. But I think Sajid Javid and Stephen Crabb answer a kind of frustration in the party that it’s rulers seem to be drawn from Eton.’
