Farage attacks Labour activists canvassing for Kamala

Another day, another drama. Nigel Farage has lashed out at the Labour lot today after it transpired that a number of activists from Sir Keir Starmer’s party are jetting off to the US to canvas for Kamala Harris. The Reform UK leader has blasted Starmer’s army over the revelation – even accusing Labour of ‘direct interference’ in the presidential election. Crikey.

Farage fumed this morning that: ‘This is direct election interference by the governing Labour Party, and particularly stupid if [Donald] Trump wins. Who is paying for all of this?’ It’s certainly an interesting move. Activists flying overseas will have to pay their way there, while party staff keen to help out Harris have been told to take annual leave if they want to travel. Those intending to go have been informed that Democrat campaigners can provide accommodation for them on arrival, as they prepare to spend the next two-and-a-half weeks campaigning for the Democratic candidate in four main battlegrounds – Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia – ahead of the 5 November election date.

The Clacton MP’s comments come after republicans lambasted the plans as an ‘outrage’, warning that the move could damage UK-US relations if Trump emerges victorious in the November poll. Even Elon Musk waded into the row, claiming: ‘This is illegal.’ Yet the Twitter CEO was quick to receive a ‘community note’ on his own platform, with fact-checkers reminding the tech billionaire: ‘The [Federal Election Commission] explicitly permits foreign nationals to serve as campaign volunteers.’ That may be the case – but is it really such a wise political move from the Labour lot? Time will tell…
