The Rwanda Bill tomorrow gets its Third Reading in the House of Commons. But before that comes the committee stage, with MPs on the right of the Conservative MPs putting down amendments to the Bill. Some are warning that unless the Bill is amended to make it tougher today then they will either abstain or even vote against it tomorrow night.

If Rishi Sunak and the Whips’ Office were to lose such a vote on a major piece of legislation at Third Reading – at a time when they still boast a working majority of 54 – then it would constitute a major crisis for the government. Below are a list of MPs who have publicly said that they are prepared to vote against the Rwanda Bill tomorrow:

  1. Simon Clarke – ‘I am minded as things stand today to vote against.’
  2. Miriam Cates – ‘I would be prepared’ to vote against.
  3. Suella Braverman – ‘This bill does not work. And if there are no improvements to it, I will have to vote against it.’
  4. Robert Jenrick – ‘I’ll actively consider voting against it because all that matters is what works, and I’m not going to support a Bill that doesn’t work.’
  5. Marco Longhi – ‘Of course’ he is willing to vote against
  6. Nick Fletcher – ‘At this moment in time, yes’
  7. Sarah Dines – ‘I, like a lot of MPs, am going to vote against if this Bill is unamended. I cannot support a third piece of legislation that doesn’t deliver on this serious issue for the people.’
  8. Jacob Rees-Mogg – ‘I would be prepared to’ vote against it.
  9. Jonathan Gullis – ‘I’m prepared to either abstain or vote against.’
  10. Danny Kruger – ‘Prepared’ to vote against.
