George Osborne prepares to put pen to paper

Although George Osborne is now on the backbench, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer is keen to make sure that he remains a busy bee. As well as jetting off to New York this week to attend Tina Brown’s Brexit bash, the MP for Tatton is now considering putting pen to paper for a book.

However, readers hoping for a salacious account of his time in No.11 are likely to be left disappointed. Speaking at the Guildhall, Osborne hinted that he may revisit a literary project he began several years ago with Danny Finkelstein, the Times columnist:

‘Almost 15 years ago, I started to research a book with a friend of mine, Daniel Finkelstein, that was going to set out how great acts of social change actually come about in our parliamentary democracy – and it was going to subtly, and incidentally, point out that the people who drove these acts of change were often Conservatives. The book never got written, maybe it will now.’

With Osborne and Cameron both keen to make social change their legacy, Mr S will be interested to learn whether the EU referendum gets a mention in the tome.
