Good news for people who love bad news. Jared O’Mara, a former member of the Labour Women and Equalities select committee, has been reinstated as a Labour MP. He had the whip removed in October over a series of online posts and claims he verbally abused a woman – from his time before becoming an MP.
However, an investigation by the Labour Party yesterday ruled the Sheffield MP should have the party whip restored – and a formal warning for good measure.
For those who need a refresher, here are a few facts about the newly reinstated Labour MP for Sheffield Hallam:
- Jared on Angelina
He favourably compared a ‘shredtastic’ Sheffield band to receiving fellatio from Angelina Jolie. - ‘I wish I were a misogynist’ – a tune by O’Mara’s band
A tasteful tune from his band, the Dirty Rotten Troubadours:’I wish I were a misogynist
I’d put her in her place
I wish I were a misogynist
I’d smash her in her face. Sing along! - He requested an an orgy with Girls Aloud – on one condition‘
Girls Aloud – I advise you to sack Sarah and the remaining four members (Nicola, Cheryl, Nadine and Kimberley) come and have an orgy with me.’Good luck with that. - He spoke of the ‘Marmite motorway’ in relation to the gay community:
‘Just cos he writes about gayness… doesn’t mean he drives up the Marmite motorway, or…allows someone else to drive up his. And just because I use euphamisms [sic] for anal love that can be interpreted as being derogotory [sic]…DOES NOT mean I’m homophobic.’In other comments, he referred to ‘fudge packing’ and ‘poofters’.
