So Michael Phelps smokes marijuana from time to time. Big deal. What a shame though that he’s released this statement:
Phelps has done nothing wrong and has nothing to apologise for. Perhaps his sponsors have suggested he adopt this craven, humiliating posture. How much better it would have been if he had said “You know what, I engaged in behaviour that was good fun and had a great time. You got a problem with that? I’m 23 years old and there are times when, because of the successes I’ve enjoyed, I like to kick back and relax, just like millions of other 23 year olds.“I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment,” Phelps said in a statement released by Octagon, his management firm, and posted on his Facebook site. “I’m 23 years old, and despite the successes I have had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner that people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public — it will not happen again.”
