When Lexie Hill appeared on Question Time last month, she left Cabinet minister Liz Truss speechless when she offered up her argument for leaving the EU. The Brexit youth dismissed the Environment Secretary’s claim that the Prime Minister’s EU negotiation deal will reduce the ‘pull factors’ attracting migrants — arguing that a rise in the living wage would actually do the opposite:
‘I’m sorry but I can’t accept Liz’s arguments. What is increasing the living wage to £9-per-hour in 2020 going to do? Especially Eastern Europeans who have a minimum wage that’s already one tenth of what ours is’
With the clip going viral and Lexie championed as a new poster girl for Brexit, it’s little wonder that the Out campaign have since recruited her. The 16-year-old schoolgirl appeared as the guest of honour at today’s Women for Britain launch at One Great George Street. Introduced by Ukip’s Suzanne Evans, Hill appeared via video link as she was unable to take time out of her school day:
‘First, let’s hear from a very special young woman who would very much like to be with us today but she can’t because she couldn’t get out of school. Her name is Lexie Hill, she’s 16-years-old and you may remember her from Question Time a couple of weeks ago when she told everyone exactly what she thought’
Lexie then explained that it was time to vote for Britain to leave an ‘increasingly undemocratic and expensive institute’:
‘I’m Lexie, unfortunately I can’t be here today. I just want to say thanks to you all standing up against an increasingly undemocratic and expensive institute that is gradually eroding our own Parliament’s rules. If I could vote on June 23 I would stand up for British interests and Vote Leave.’
Mr S suspects this won’t be the last time Hill will be asked to lend a helping hand to the Leave camp.
