Rishi Sunak was expected to set sail for the US after leaving No. 10, but it turns out his post-prime ministerial life is less Silicon Valley and more Sunday Times. The former Conservative party leader – who remains an MP for Richmond and Northallerton – will become a regular fixture in the august weekend paper, contributing a weekly business column from this Sunday onwards. Alright for some!
Sunak’s new column, which will appear both in print and online, will focus on a range of subjects including business, tech, politics and the economy. The onetime PM is raring to go, saying in a statement: ‘In an era of profound change, I’m really looking forward to a weekly conversation with readers about the forces reshaping the world economy, from global politics to technology.’ For his part, Sunday Times editor Ben Taylor gushed that ‘Rishi’s vast experience and brilliant mind will help readers navigate what is an increasingly challenging and complex business landscape.’ Taylor added: ‘His experience is unrivalled – on the world stage and in government – and we feel confident that he will be “appointment to read” every weekend.’ No pressure, Rishi!
The update follows news from the start of the year that Sunak would be taking up roles at his alma maters Oxford University and Stanford University, as part of their World Leaders Circle. While there was much speculation that the ex-PM would move stateside, Sunak used his final PMQs to dispel those rumours. ‘I am happy to confirm reports that I will now be spending more time in the greatest place on Earth,’ he told parliamentarians proudly – before clarifying this was his constituency in Yorkshire.
