The Conservative party conference may be in full swing in Manchester but Reform UK’s politicians are still creating headlines. Deputy leader Richard Tice has given a rather punchy interview to Arabian Business during a trip to Dubai – in which he slated Britain’s immigration ‘disaster’, insisted a decline in the British work ethic was because the ‘UK became complacent [and] decadent’ and even claimed that Britain is ‘going bust’.
Then the Reform man turned his attention to some big British names. First he took a swipe at a rather, er, controversial British broadcaster: former England footballer Gary Neville. Taking a pop at the left-wing right back over his patriotism, Tice fumed:
Dear Gary Neville, everybody’s entitled to their own opinions. That’s fine – but I did see a clip of him when he was playing for England, which he did many times, he was a great footballer. But the TV camera was going along all players during the national anthem – he wasn’t singing. I thought, that’s interesting. He wasn’t singing the national anthem and now he doesn’t want to fly the Union flag of our United Kingdom. Makes you wonder.
How very curious…
On ex-PM Boris Johnson, Tice accused the onetime Tory premier of imposing mass immigration:
Boris, bless him, he’s good company and he’s a great orator but he did impose mass immigration – which has been a catastrophe. And he did impose net stupid zero – which has been a catastrophe. Now he’s recanting from it but his brand is toxic. He may find that very difficult to believe, but his brand – and the Conservative brand – is now toxic.
Shots fired! With the Welsh and Scottish parliament elections just around the corner – not to mention the local elections next May – Tice’s claim about Tory toxicity will be put to the test. Stay tuned…
