Here is a story that should have got far more attention. A story that perfectly epitomises the corruption and anti-democratic activity of the EU.
In 2010 the group NGO Monitor – which seeks to hold NGOs to account – petitioned the European Commission to reveal details of the NGOs it has funded in recent years. As readers will know, much of the government-funded NGO business is a racket, and one which pushes highly specific political agendas. And so it has been in recent years with funding from the EU.
In particular, as NGO Monitor has previously shown, there is the little matter of the European Commission funding rabidly anti-Israel groups in Europe and the Middle East. These include groups which campaign against the region’s only truly free and democratic state, and seek to subvert the government and alter the future of that nation.
The continuing funding of such groups is exactly what the EC would have revealed had it been forced to reveal the facts. Realizing this, it has fought against transparency with every entity at its disposal.
Now the European Court of Justice has backed the EC’s refusal to release the names of organisations which the EC has funded. In the opinion of the European Court the EC’s right to a ‘privacy’ defence, among other things, means that the details of where the money goes must remain hidden from the mere taxpayers of Europe. Furthermore, NGO Monitor has been instructed to pay the EC’s legal costs.
At a time when we are all looking for ways to save money, what more of a nudge do we need? Here is a completely straightforward case. The EU is using our money for ends it is itself embarrassed by, but spends even more of our money trying to ensure we remain ignorant about how our money is spent.
How much longer is it going to take our government to work out – and act on – the only conclusion to be drawn about this corrupt institution?
