Ex-Reform MP Rupert Lowe is no stranger to the spotlight. Nigel Farage’s former colleague has made headlines in recent months after he was suspended from the party following a rather unflattering interview he gave to the Daily Mail about Reform’s leadership. It quickly emerged that chairman Zia Yusuf and chief whip Lee Anderson had referred their former colleague to the police over ‘threats of physical violence’, with the Met Police launching an investigation into the parliamentarian. Earlier this month, news came that the Greater Yarmouth politician will not face criminal charges over the allegations – and Lowe was fast to tweet out a furious statement that branded his former party leader a ‘cowards and a viper’ over the matter. Tell us what you really think, Rupert!
Now it transpires that Lowe may be ‘open’ to joining the Tory party – after a meeting with onetime leadership candidate and shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick last week. As revealed by Politics Home, the duo met at the exclusive 5 Hertford Street private members club last Thursday, where they discussed Lowe’s political career. While Lowe has previously suggested he may start up his own political party to rival Reform, Jenrick told the news outlet after the meet that ‘all options are open’. And the Newark MP isn’t the only Conservative who would consider welcoming Lowe to the Tory fold. Alex Burghart has in the past suggested the ex-Reform man could be welcomed into the party, remarking: ‘It’s not a “no”.’ How very curious…
The conversation was had just days before a public attack was made on current Tory leader Kemi Badenoch in the Sunday Times – which suggested her own politicians have come up with four different ways to oust her. Badenoch’s boys in blue suffered a round of losses at England’s recent local elections and the Tories are on track to lose yet more seats at the Welsh and Scottish parliamentary elections next year. Could the possible recruitment of Lowe be linked to these anti-Kemi manoeuvres? Stay tuned…
