Hunter Biden, the ne’er-do-well son of the president, has been indicted by federal prosecutors on gun charges.
Last night, a Delaware federal court indicted Biden on three counts following an investigation by Special Counsel David Weiss. Two of the counts concern the president’s son allegedly lying on a form when purchasing a Colt Cobra revolver five years ago, where, according to the indictment, he falsely claimed that he was not using illegal narcotics at the time of sale. The third count alleges that he was using the drugs while in possession of the firearm.
The indictment attempts to lay out how Biden fibbed to the authorities when he agreed ‘that he was not an unlawful user of, and addicted to, any stimulant, narcotic drug, and any other controlled substance, when in fact, as he knew, that statement was false and fictitious.’
This comes after the failed ‘sweetheart deal’ between Biden and federal prosecutors, which would have allowed Biden to plead guilty to two misdemeanour tax counts in exchange for excluding jail time vis-à-vis the felony gun charge. The deal fell apart under judicial scrutiny, as a judge expressed concern that a clause allowing Biden blanket immunity on related crimes might be unconstitutional.
Earlier this week, House Republicans launched an impeachment inquiry into Hunter’s father, in which lawmakers will attempt to uncover serious crimes. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy posited that Republicans have enough circumstantial evidence to warrant a deeper investigation into whether or not the president was involved with his son’s foreign business dealings that saw the Biden family rake in millions of dollars. The GOP believes that the elder Biden may have been using his former position as vice president to engage in influence peddling.
Thursday’s indictment gives greater weight to the leading GOP presidential nominee’s insistence that the Biden family is indeed a ‘crime family.’ Americans previously saw evidence of Biden’s brazenly illegal activities splashed across his laptop hard drive. Now that the president’s distractions have failed, the fight for the presidency intensifies. With Republicans hitting back against the Biden DOJ trying to put their own leader in a prison cell, expect things to get even rockier.
