Reform warns Starmer of ‘national crisis’ over immigration data

One of the key issues at play in this year’s July election was the matter of immigration. Sir Keir Starmer promised voters that his party would ‘cut immigration’ and yet this week alone more than 1,500 irregular migrants arrived on Britain’s shores. Much like with everything else, Brits are losing faith in Sir Keir’s government and frustration is growing over poor public comms, sleaze scandals and a failure to deliver fast on manifesto promises. And now it seems that Nigel Farage’s MPs have had enough.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Reform’s five MPs have called for the release of a selection of immigration data, accusing the government of information being ‘withheld or deliberately concealed’ from the public. In a scathing note, Reform politicians rage:

According to the national polls, the British people consider immigration to be one of the most important issues facing the country. The overwhelming majority of ordinary people want to end the deliberate policy of mass, uncontrolled legal immigration and regain control over illegal immigration.

This is causing a national crisis, with public trust in politics and the system collapsing… While other government across Europe are collecting and making more data available on the impact of immigration, government departments in the UK appear to be publishing less. Why is this?

Farage’s crowd have demanded that Starmer’s army make public data on tax, welfare claims, arrest and sentencing rates and asylum hotel costs. More than that, the Reform MPs have quizzed the PM on why the Office for National Statistics has ‘discontinued analysis of our population by nationality’ – and when, if at all, this will resume. ‘Most people in this country want this data to be collected and/or released to taxpayers,’ the politicians add, signing off: ‘So, we ask: when will it be made available to them?’

As fears about the cost of living crisis, the housing market and now the implications of Labour’s Budget on Britain’s workers continue to grow, this latest intervention is yet another headache for Sir Keir. Will Starmer relent in response to Reform? Stay tuned…
