You’d think if your political leadership had led to the fracturing of your party with key figures investigated as part of a finance probe, you’d keep your head down. Not Nicola Sturgeon. The SNP’s former Dear Leader seems to be rather enjoying her time in the spotlight – with the sitting MSP hosting a number of literary events across Scotland and endlessly promoting her soon-to-be-published memoir. Now it transpires that the politician is set to be interviewed in October at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall – with attendees charged a hefty sum of £150 if they want to meet the former first minister before nabbing a front row seat for her Q&A. Crikey!
Seats at the Edinburgh event range from £30 to £74, with a whopping £75 fee slapped on for those who want to attend a meet and greet with Sturgeon beforehand. The evening promises to be a ‘rare chance to hear directly from one of the most recognisable voices in UK politics’, where the parliamentarian will be interviewed before taking questions from the audience. The event has been tabled some months after Sturgeon’s memoir ‘Frankly’ will hit bookshelves, with the ex-FM promising her masterpiece – for which she received a £75,000 advance – will be a ‘candid’ read. Mr S will believe that when he sees it…
The Queen of the Nats announced last month that she will be stepping down as an MSP at the next election after spending more than a quarter of a century in the Scottish parliament. In a note to her constituents, the former first minister gushed: ‘I joined the SNP in 1986 because I wanted to play my part in building a fair and prosperous Scotland… Even though I am preparing to leave elected politics, I hope to contribute in different ways to making that ambition a reality’. How curious. Not that charging punters £75 a pop for a meet and greet seems all that equitable, eh?
