I do not entirely understand why the Tory right is demanding a referendum over the
latest plans to allow Germany to dictate the economic policies of all countries within the eurozone.
I can see why we should have had a referendum over the EU ‘Constitution’ — which did fundamentally change our relationship with the EU and transferred power to Brussels. I can see why people might want a referendum on leaving the EU altogether. But to have a referendum on a deal which will not transfer power to Brussels (and may yet repatriate some powers from Brussels) seems to me perverse. And, of course, costly.
But perhaps I am wrong about this?
