What’s going on with Carol Vorderman?

It seems that Labour have a secret weapon in their local election campaign. For months now, Carol Vorderman has been on a one-woman war against the Tories, taking to Twitter to decry the incumbent government. The former Countdown star is a devotee of the all caps tweet, railing against her onetime friend turned bête noire Michelle Mone with such understated gems as ‘the greed of the rich knows no limit ALWAYS remember that’. Her online crusade has also been conducted in the TV studios, including an earnest speech about Rishi Sunak’s financial investments on ITV’s This Morning, to the bemusement of fellow guests Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

Her latest campaign though is a positively Herculean feat of investigative journalism. It involves going through the Twitter biographies of every elected Conservative politician in the UK and discovering if they list their party affiliation or not. Eat your heart out Washington Post. Vorderman has found that neither Liz Truss, Boris Johnson nor Theresa May list this in their profile – in case, er, anyone was confused about their membership of the Tory party. The sexagenarian celebrity is providing handy updates to her 700,000 Twitter followers, giving a running commentary of how ’70 per cent’ of Tory MPs don’t list their party online and becoming embroiled with GB News star and capital punishment enthusiast Lee ‘Have I Got Noose For You’ Anderson MP.

Tweets this morning include several pops at social care minister Helen Whately and an all caps warning about ‘BEWARE BLUES PRETENDING TO BE GREENS’ – a reference to Tory leaflets featuring a different colour. With tweets like these, who can blame them, frankly? It’s quite the transformation for a woman who once headed a task force established by David Cameron to look at the teaching of maths in schools. She said last week that she wants to ‘join the dots about political corruption’ in a new show’ which she floated on – where else? – Twitter.

Countdown to another anti-Tory vehicle being launched…
