Following the recent announcement of Britain’s extended green list, many UK travellers will be jetting off for the only part of Spain to make the cut: the Balearic Islands. A number of laidback luxury hotels and locally inspired resorts are making their debut across the Balearics just as travellers return. These are the brand-new properties providing beachfront, mountain-backed and garden-enclosed retreats across Ibiza, Mallorca, Formentera and Menorca.

Six Senses Ibiza

Six Senses is making its entry to the Balearics this summer with the debut of Six Senses Ibiza. Set over 20 acres on the northern tip of the island, the village-like retreat combines uninterrupted sea views and direct access to Cala Xarraca bay with sustainable luxury that takes cues from authentic island life. The BREEAM certified resort encompasses 116 rooms and suites and a range of villas.

Guests can enjoy the first European outpost of the farm-to-table Israeli dining concept of Eyal Shani. The resort’s restaurants, cafes and bars will all highlight the organic ingredients of The Farm at Six Senses, which features a 400-year-old olive press, and the resort will pay homage to Ibiza’s music scene with its own music venue, Live Cave, comprising a recording studio, shorefront bar and lounge. Guests staying here can also unwind at The Six Senses Spa.

Can Ferrereta, Mallorca

The May opened Can Ferrereta takes over a restored 17th century mansion in the south east coastal town of Santanyí. Designed to feel like a grand Mallorcan summer house, the boutique property houses just 32 guest rooms, along with the Mediterranean restaurant OCRE, which now occupies the original wine cellar, and poolside all-day dining restaurant and bar LA FRESCA. The locally inspired SA CALMA spa comes with an indoor pool —complementing the outdoor pool — gym and hammam.

This hideaway set amid verdant gardens is the work of the Soldevila-Ferrer family who also own San Francesc Hotel Singular in Palma. Each room and suite is individually styled and the signature pool suite comes with its own sundeck, garden and pool.

Palladium Hotel Menorca

May saw the opening of Palladium Hotel Menorca following a transformation of the former property. Guests staying at this retreat above Arenal d’en Castell bay on the island’s north-eastern coast now benefit from entirely renovated accommodation and luxury facilities with the views this location provides over dramatic cliffs, pine forest and sandy coastline. The 264-room property includes the Mediterranean dining spot Sa Barca, a choice of swimming pools, Zensations by Zentropia Palladium Spa & Wellness and three bars: Shake It! pool bar, Gregal lobby bar and Sa Pomada comedy theatre bar. The entire property looks fresh and bright, with space that makes the most of the hotel’s privileged views.

Cala Gracio Bay

OKU Ibiza is making its debut this summer in lush hillside fringing Cala Gracio bay. Facilities include several swimming pools—one of which is the largest pool on the island—a spa and two restaurants: OKU Restaurant for destination dining and relaxed poolside dining venue, and Kima, which both offer menus curated by executive chef Mark Vaessen, formerly of SUSHISAMBA. Accommodation here spans 184 boho-chic guest rooms and suites, including six swim-up rooms, ocean-view penthouses and the four-bedroom standalone OKU Signature Suite with private pool.

Zafiro Palace Andratx, Mallorca

The just-opened Zafiro Palace Andratx is set in the seafront village of Camp de Mar, which is backed by mountains on the south-west corner of the island. In this location, the resort places guests within moments of the beach and just a 10-minute drive from the historic town of Andratx, as well as the 18-hole championship Andratx golf course.

The all-suite retreat combines its Mallorcan identity with modern luxury. The hotel’s 304 suites are joined by several private rooftop mini pools and hydromassage bathtubs commanding impressive views, as well as the Zen, Spa & Wellness centre with a sauna, Turkish bath and heated pool. The hotel is home to a range of culinary options, from the Italian restaurant El Pórtico and Caliu Grill Restaurant to Tastes & Sushi Bar and La Veranda.

Casa Pacha Formentera

Casa Pacha Formentera is a slice of boutique luxury on the island of Formentera. The brand-new property comprises just 14 spacious rooms. Backing the shores of Formentera’s longest beach, Migjorn, the hotel provides uninterrupted sea views, which can be taken in from each room’s private terrace or balcony, as well as from Pacha’s first-ever beach restaurant, which accommodates up to 120 diners. Mediterranean dishes and a sunset tapas menu served to you at wooden tables while your toes are still in the sand. Alternatively, enjoy an open-air massage under the pine trees.
